POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides overall functional and managerial leadership to an assigned staff of approximately 21 personnel at Keesler AFB’s three physical fitness centers and its associated fitness processes and programs. Interfaces with customer services/contracting management personnel as required to resolve Keesler AFB services customer support issues. Accomplishes other leadership and administrative tasks as required to ensure effective contractor services customer support to Keesler AFB.

- Operates Keesler AFB’s three physical fitness centers; all located on Keesler AFB accordance with guidance provided in Air Force Instruction 34-266, Air Force Fitness and Sports Programs and contractual requirements to enhance readiness and provide recreational physical fitness support and programs to the community. Fitness Center operation include fitness trails, courts, group exercise areas, one-on-one personal fitness training (with a cost to customer), fitness equipment areas, steam or sauna rooms, showers, lockers, indoor and outdoor game courts, weight rooms, massage therapist, aerobic or group exercise areas, and equipment issue for patron utilization.
- Ensures efficient use of assigned staffing to effectively support required customer service.
- Provides necessary staff to manage, prepare and maintain the playing fields seasonally for all Keesler AFB sports programs.
- Provides support to Fitness Supervisors to, schedule and maintains records for sports leagues and tournaments as organized and scheduled based on USAF customer demand. Provides suitable equipment.
- Provides qualified physical trainers to help individual customers develop optimal fitness plans, and provides a computerized information system to track customer progress.
- Completes staff performance reviews at set time periods
- Familiarity with a broad range of fitness equipment and the ability to maintain equipment inventory including procurement and lifecycle rotation plans
- Familiarity with inspecting facility for risk management and maintenance concerns
- Knowledge and skill as a facility and program manager. Including the knowledge of support activities (i.e., manpower etc.) in order to obtain the resources to insure proper delivering an effective and efficient fitness and sports program
- Knowledge and skill in the use of wide range of fitness and sports equipment and its benefits to patrons
- Knowledge of facility and personnel management policies, practices and procedures, including the ability to adjust work operations to meet the emergency, changing program or production requirements within available resources with minimum sacrifice of quantity or quality of work.
- Organizational skills in fitness and special event programs
- Performs other duties and assignments as required.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
- Computers, Microsoft Office software products, USAF legacy software products as required, contractor Program Management software products as required and standard office equipment/machinery
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is generally conducted in an office environment. However, duties may occasionally involve working outside with a potential exposure to extreme temperatures. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
- Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents.
- Work is partially sedentary while in an office setting and moderately active while in the fitness center and at the outdoor activities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management or associated discipline or Community College of the Air Force.
- Associates Degree in Recreation Management in combination with demonstrated extensive experience as a senior-leader leading a USAF services organization over and above the requirement cited below.
- Hold American Red Cross CPR/AED/ First Aid Instructor Certification or must obtain within one year of employment
- Hold at least one (1) certification in personal training as recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Accepted Personal training certifications include: ACE, AFFA, ACSM, CI, NASM, NCCPT, NSCA.
Experience:
- A minimum of eight years’ experience with primary responsibility providing functional and management leadership of external customer service-oriented physical fitness centers.
Skills:
- Must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, organize workload, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
