POSITION SUMMARY

The Director/Sr. Director of Portfolio Analysis and Strategy will be responsible for managing Pfenex’s Portfolio Strategy Process, collecting and analyzing market segment information, accumulating competitive intelligence related to products that compete with Pfenex’s existing and/or future pipeline, comprehensive financial modeling in support of transactions and pipeline prioritization. This individual will be experienced at conducting market research in support of product partnering efforts, product ideation, pipeline prioritization and investor interactions. The ideal candidate will have a life sciences background with strong business acumen focused on assessing potential market opportunities. The responsibilities of this position require both strategic and tactical activities, the candidate is expected to be both a strategic thinker and also a day to day executer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage overall asset/technology evaluation process, ensures actions logged and closed, manages databases for new product opportunities, ensures cross functional SME’s provide needed input in a timely fashion, drives decision making in the advancement of asset evaluation.
  • Build financial and commercial analysis, insights and data driven recommendations around strategic opportunities
  • Research asset/technology opportunities by analyzing scientific literature, speaking with thought-leading physicians and other technical KOL’s.
  • Develop significant disease/therapeutic area expertise based on products/technologies being evaluated.
  • Triage questions regarding competitors, competitor products, market dynamics etc, repository of and ensures timely answering of these.
  • Work with the CFO to develop and maintain investor Q&A lists in support of ongoing investor interactions.
  • Compile data from multiple sources to develop detailed financial models.
  • Ability to collect, synthesize and present findings in clear presentation formats
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Develop and maintain a business development data base containing information on the competitive landscape aligned with Pfenex core markets/products
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, both verbally and written, effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Outstanding work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work well on a team as well as individually
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders


QUALIFICATIONS


Experience:

  • Strong financial modeling and business analytics skills
  • Experience in portfolio strategy, asset evaluation and project management.
  • At least 10 yrs of experience related to pharmaceutical, biotechnology experience could be in banking/finance/investment industry
  • Advanced knowledge and use of MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience in high performing business development, investment banking, consulting or strategic planning, finance environment


Education:

  • BA/BS degree is required preferably in the life sciences, MBA is preferred
