About the Position:
Reporting to the President’s Office, Chief of Staff, the Director, Strategic Initiatives/ University Projects is responsible for managing and monitoring the implementation, execution and coordination of California State University Fullerton’s strategic plan, both campus-wide and through cross-divisional interactions. The incumbent will promote the value and accessibility of higher education embedded in the strategic plan, and advance the long-term sustainability of that value through the vibrant and rigorous implementation of the plan’s identified strategies to attain plan objectives.
Responsibilities include: Manage, execute and coordinate special projects at the divisional and campus-wide level for the President’s Office;, Create detailed project plans and manage day-to-day- project activities and progress; Organize and run project meetings; Serve as a liaison between external agencies and internal administrative units and coordinate a wide range of inter-related activities of both short and long-term duration that may involve campus issues and legislative relations; Develop and coordinate strategic institutional relationships, coordinating internally-focused and externally-focused strategic campus projects;. Plan, develop and implement campus strategies for the fulfillment and realization of initiatives; Formulate action plans and provide direction in order to implement approved strategies; Operationalize tactical deployment of assigned projects and initiatives, establishing and maintaining effective working relations with others to successfully complete projects and initiatives; Anticipate and assess situations accurately and adopts effective courses of action as appropriate; Use analytical and planning skills to ensure deadlines are met, reports filed and other benchmarks of project-s/proposal progress are fulfilled; Communicate updates either verbally or in writing with project stakeholders; Participate with senior management on institutional planning; Recommend and participate in the development of University procedures; Serve as liaison with government and/or community leadership on strategic and operational matters pertaining to the specific area of institutional interest; Project solutions to a variety of problems using sound judgement and discretion; Represent the campus and its mission and values; Maintain awareness of contemporary affairs in Higher Education, as well as provide research briefings, condensing research findings into summaries, fact checking/ data-source and validation; Prepare executive summaries/ white papers covering relevant contemporary information as well as specific research as deemed necessary/ relevant, and disseminate as appropriate; Prepare and or contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, briefings, presentations and drafts of high-level correspondence on institutional and strategic issues, as appropriate; Function as a project researcher by collecting/ reviewing research for initiatives, identify objectives or other target topics and prepares briefing notes and reports; Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Advanced degree from accredited university is required with at least five years of related experience. Experience in strategic planning, as well as handling complex, diverse, large-scale projects. Familiarity with shared governance in higher education setting. Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills suited to interaction with senior level administrators. Ability to encourage innovation and positive change. Demonstrated operational and strategic leadership success. Ability to set strategic direction and design and implement effective institutional policies and programs. Skills in collaboration, managing change, and building consensus. Ability to gather, assemble, analyze and evaluate facts, evidence, data and other information to draw reasonable and fair conclusions and make sound decisions and recommendations. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Sensitivity and respect for diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, cultural backgrounds, disability and sexual orientation of students, faculty and staff.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
