The Director of Knowledge and Curriculum’s job is to support Nashville Classical’s mission by leading the development and alignment of the school’s K-8 writing curriculum, including course blueprints (scope and sequence), interim assessments, unit tests unit plans, lesson plans, and lesson materials. In particular, the DKC is responsible for aligning curriculum to the school’s listening & learning or science and history curriculum.
The Director of Knowledge and Curriculum must be an excellent writer with a passion for language. They must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with teachers, students, and administrators across a variety of projects and formats.
The Director of Knowledge and Curriculum will help the school to review and improve current materials, according to student data and the school’s strategic plan.
Key responsibilities for SY2020 include:
a. Create all materials for 3rd and 5th Grade Writing courses, including unit tests, unit plans, daily lesson plans, and daily student materials.
Future responsibilities include:
a. Produce standards-aligned assessment items for interim assessments
b. Creating annotated student exemplars that provide guidance on excellent instruction and feedback
c. Produce a standards-aligned scope and sequence that leads to master on interim assessments and state tests.
d. Produce unit tests that assess individual student objectives and matches the rigor and format of college-ready exams.
e. Produce unit plans that sequence individual lesson objectives to achieve mastery of unit tests and interim assessments.
f. Produce lesson plans organized around a data-driven, standards-aligned objective and clear, consistent, vertically aligned key points.
g. Produce scholar materials that lead to mastery of the lesson objectives. Scholar materials should be engaging, easy-to-read, and professional.
h. Deliver professional development to leaders and teachers on curriculum implementation and effectiveness.
i. Consult with leaders on the effectiveness of curriculum and coaching of teachers.
A successful applicant will have the following experiences and characteristics:
a. Knowledge of K-8 writing curriculum and instruction
b. Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
c. Meticulous attention to detail
d. Skill in managing multiple projects and effective prioritization
e. A desire to consistently improve through regular feedback
f. Experience teaching at the elementary or middle school level and a track record of measurable results
Contract Length: 2 years with possible renewal option to continue project, implement a new project, or move into a school leadership role.
Start Date: January 15 – January 30, 2020
Salary, Benefits and Schedule
Salary for this role will be similar to the salary for an Assistant Principal and employee will be eligible for an annual cost of living adjustment. While partial remote work is possible, the employee may be required to be in Nashville for 1-2 weeks at a time and may be asked to stay in shared housing.
