SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Director of Carrier Operations will have a strong customer focus, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally internally and externally.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead and develop Carrier Sales Representatives and Account Coordinators
  • Full management responsibility of carrier relationship building, shipment building, shipment booking, tracking and tracing, prioritization and coverage/sourcing initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external sales partners
  • Support Standard Operating Procedures to improve business performance
  • Regular KPI review with staff including action plans and follow-up
  • Communicate performance targets to CSRs and ACs
  • Assist and provide CSRs with market conditions to support load sourcing demands
  • Provide dedicated support to key carriers to ensure customer service levels are exceeded
  • Drive and foster development and long-term partnerships with carrier network
  • Dayforce supervision and payroll management for assigned staff members
  • Coaching, mentoring and performance management for all department team members
  • Support face-to-face meetings and logistics proposals with both customers and carriers

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4 to 6 years of management experience, ideally in the logistics industry
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a relevant field such as business, supply chain management or finance

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Extremely organized and very detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in carrier procurement, contract negotiation and quality measurement
  • Demonstrated success in profitably expanding freight brokerage sales and division operations
  • Experience and thorough understanding of 3PL transportation management systems

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
