VP, Laboratory Operations-San Diego
The VP, Laboratory Operations will manage a CAP/CLIA laboratory of 100+ employees in a ~25,000 sq. foot facility providing leadership and management to the organizationâs operations. Millennium is a high volume, specialty lab with a strong focus on compliance, achieving and exceeding lab metrics without compromising service levels. The position is responsible for all related duties as required and assigned and understands that the items in this description are not all-inclusive.
- Achieving laboratory metrics and company goals for all laboratory services
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, e.g. CAP, CLIA, New York State, etc.
- Continuously improving quality and productivity performance through world-class approaches and implementation, e.g. Lean, Sigma, Process Re-engineering
- Ensuring the laboratory operations maintain all human, capital and consumable resources necessary to match the Companyâs offered services
- Ensuring a safe working environment
- Driving systems and culture to ensure zero defect (e.g. negligible false-positive, false-negative) performance
- Leading selection, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation of supervisors and managers
- Rapidly scaling laboratory operations to accommodate expansion of service offerings and significant increases in demand
- Interacting with vendors on special projects such as test method validations and new equipment
- Responsibility for technical studies designed to improve or validate clinical laboratory testing methods
- Ensuring HIPAA compliance
- Working with executive leadership to execute on short- and long-term strategy
Required Skills
- Experience working in high complexity CLIA/CAP environments achieving laboratory goals for turnaround time and accuracy
- Strong working knowledge of chemical, immunological, and molecular testing methodologies
- Extensive experience in process improvement and workflow analysis
- Track record of scaling laboratory production, including building teams, generating results, and implementing strategy
- Proven ability to work and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver projects and solutions in a timely and effective manner
Required Experience
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in laboratory operations within clinical and/or life sciences
- Minimally a bachelorâs degree in Life Science, preferably Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Genetics. Masters or PhD would be an advantage.
- Current California CLS license (Generalist, CGMBS, CTS, or Clinical Chemistry) highly preferred
- ASCP highly desirable
