The V P, Finance Operations is a key business partner to the GM/SVP, Operations of The US Oncology Network & Practice Management—a $7 billion annual revenue segment in helping drive financial discipline and execution consistent with three key strategic finance priorities: managing complexity, driving profitable growth, and performance/balancing risk.
This individual will play a critical role in driving collaboration across the practices and the network platform to deliver success i.e. operations, M&A, Revenue Cycle, IT, Pharmacy, Managed Care, Radiation & Imaging, etc. This role demands forward-thinking and will be required to contribute to practice management controllership, decision support, strategic planning and overall financial leadership. This role will manage a senior finance team consisting of regional finance directors, senior managers and practice controllers.
Success in this role is measured by delivery on plan commitments, forecast accuracy, timely and high-quality execution of KPIs, team members’ growth, and success of Practice Management in meeting profit and cash flow targets. The VP, Finance Operations for The US Oncology Network & Practice Management reports directly to the CFO of The US Oncology Network & Practice Management and a dotted line to GM/SVP of Practice Management Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial controllership, analysis and decision support – Drive the understanding, modeling and analysis of key metrics and drivers of The US Oncology Network & Practice Management. This includes ensuring financial integrity of all financial statements and analysis against historical performance, plans, forecasts, and competitive results.
- Managing and developing employees – Hire and manage the performance of staff to meet the needs of the assigned practices and create an environment where top performers are rewarded and challenged to take on increasing levels of responsibilities. This includes scoping the financial & accounting activities of the practices, determining the skill sets and organization structure to support the practice needs and staff, develop and manage the organization to meet those needs and ensure finance talent across McKesson is continually developed.
- Perform special projects as assigned – This position is expected to possess the skills and initiative to carry out special financial or planning projects of varying nature and complexity with limited supervision by clarifying objectives and assumptions or making appropriate judgments where necessary. This may include analysis of acquisitions, divestitures, investments, integrations, etc.
- Develop and promote a framework to drive accountability across the organization; provide timely and meaningful analysis and reporting to physicians and executive leaders. Provide physicians and the executive team with accurate and actionable financial forecasts, budgetary information and reporting to ensure that there is a clear understanding of business drivers and future impacts. This includes creating and delivering formal presentations to various committees and practice board members. Partner with cross-functional managers to identify areas to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities. Work with internal teams to improve processes and results.
- Oversee Regional Finance Directors. Work with the finance team to provide in depth analysis on physician compensation, conduct timely and thorough analysis of the practice’s financial results, including an understanding of key business drivers such as the volume trends, payer mix, product mix, reimbursement activity, managed care contracting, operating expense analysis. Collaborate with Revenue Cycle to understand and drive DSO, AR, and collection and adjustment metrics.
- Work with the controller organization to establish and monitor internal controls of assets/resources, including developing and writing financial policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with GAAP. Coordinate activities in keeping accurate books and records, including maintaining general ledger and related systems for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Communicate financial drivers and forecast projections to physician and McKesson leadership.
Minimum Requirements:
10-15 years multi-site financial operations experience including significant managerial experience
Critical Skills
- 10+ years of relevant finance and controllership experience in multi-site healthcare management and operations, including at least 5 years leading teams across geography.
- Prior work experience in cancer care and/or hospital administration would be helpful to working with US Oncology’s practices; however other multi-site healthcare experiences, such as renal care, outpatient surgery or multi-specialty care are also attractive.
- P&L leadership experience and a track record of positive results.
- Prior business development experience, operations or leadership roles required. Operations know-how and demonstration of past strategic leadership.
- Accustomed to working in a rapidly changing environment and able to provide inspirational leadership, engendering drive and team cooperation while being fully capable of making tough decisions and acting on them as appropriate.
- Ability to openly communicate and motivate teams with a track record of developing and retaining good people and building strong, committed teams.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills – this position interfaces with senior executives on a regular basis

Education:
Bachelors degree in finance or accounting
MBA preferred in finance or related field or equivalent experience
Certifications/Licensure:
