Tasting Room Manager

Established in 2002, the Thousand Islands Winery® has established itself as a regional landmark in the Thousand Islands region of New York. Thousand Islands Winery® is the largest wine producer in the Thousand Islands and is located in Alexandria Bay, NY. It is a premium wine making facility with production, farming, and wine distribution operations. In 2009, it was named as New York’s “Winery of the Year” by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation.

Thousand Islands Winery® is seeking a full time Tasting Room Manager. The Tasting Room Manager would be responsible for achieving maximum sales profitability, and growth within Jefferson County and beyond by effectively selling Thousand Islands Winery® (TIW) products and/or related services.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Develop sales methods to promote and sell wines produced by Thousand Islands Winery® and the Tasting Room Experience.
• Increase direct-to-customer sales and profit.
• Train and supervise Tasting Room Staff.
• Maintain/support business relationships with current customers and establish relationships with prospective customers to generate new business for the organization.
• Strive to increase wine knowledge and quality control of TIW wines.
• Management of the Tasting Room’s point of sale system.
• Assist in ensuring that the wine and merchandise is always stocked and displayed in an organized and inviting manager.
• Expedites the resolution of customer problems and complaints.
• Assist in increasing the membership of the TIW Wine Club program.
• Identify advantages and compares organization’s products/services.
• Create and print specialty labels.
• Assist with TIW’s charitable donation program.
• Manage selection and purchase of merchandise.
• Open and close the Tasting Room as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be available to work evenings and weekends (including holiday weekends).
• A Degree in Business/Hospitality and Tourism or related field preferred.
• A minimum of five years of relevant wine industry or retail management experience.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional leadership, customer service, and problem solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to plan, organize, execute, prioritize, and multi-task.
• Demonstrated proficiency with POS systems and Microsoft Office Programs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of direct-to customer strategies.
• Ability to work under pressure, set priorities and accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
• Team player with an enthusiastic outlook and “out of the box” mindset.
• Applicant must be at least 21 years of age.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $15.50 to $18.00 /hour
