IDEXX is looking for a dynamic and engaging Senior Manager who will lead a group of highly talented scientists focusing on advancing our diagnostic product pipeline through developing and validating protein assays using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) technologies.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience in LC-MS techniques, method development, validation and quantification. We are looking for a solution-focused individual to lead discovery work with the ability to engage, inspire and develop a multi-functional, dynamic team.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads Mass Spectrometry-based discovery and bioinformatics of protein and metabolic biomarkers group.
- Manages activities in a business unit/group/area/function/program.
- Manages staff and/or supervisors, assigning work, monitoring activities and evaluating performance. Manages escalated/critical issues. Administers employment actions, provides coaching and guidance to staff and promotes staff training and development. Leads development of unit/group/area/function/program budget, policies and procedures and contributes to development of strategy and direction. May coordinate work of outside vendors and contractors.
- Leads work activities of the business unit/group/area/function/program, planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.
- Identifies and implements strategies and efficiencies to enhance customer experience and align with business operations.
- Communicates with other related departments to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed. Provides internal and/or external customer feedback and leads/participates in teams related to new or ongoing project work and other areas as needed.
- Leads/contributes to process/other improvements based on evaluation of existing procedures and business needs. Utilizes data, metrics and system tools to ensure efficiency and to maximize customer experience. Identifies problems, obstacles and opportunities and proactively acts to address issues. Strives for continuous improvement.
- Prepares reports and other information summarizing work activities and reports results to peer groups as well as senior management. Prepares various analyses as needed to highlight issues and resolve questions.
EDUCATION:
- PhD in analytical science, biological science or related discipline required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ideally 7+ years of supervisory/management experience with in-depth experience in LC-MS.
- Expertise in using LC-MS for the characterization of proteins. This will include characterization of intact proteins and post translational modifications in proteins.
- Expertise in multi-omics areas (peptidomics, proteomics and metabolomics) for untargeted discovery.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in developing and validating quantitative LC-MS/MS, LC-MRM techniques.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, resource and direct work activities.
- Reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills to resolve issues.
- Project management skills and abilities.
