Summary
Plans and directs development/production engineering programs and projects concerned with unique and diverse problems that have an important effect on extensive engineering, business, and product activities. Has full technical and financial responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. Makes recommendations and decisions that have an important impact on engineering programs as well as the business of the company. These objectives are achieved in part by delegating authority to Engineering Program Managers and interacting with Operations Managers within the plant. Responsible for the interpretation of design and specification requirements, and is focal for technical inquiries from Customers and its Operations (including Sales, Program Management, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing). When required, the Engineering Manager translates contract requirements into work instructions, processes and tasks, and assists Sales, Manufacturing Operations and Quality Departments initiatives by providing technical support for bids and proposals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans recommends, and/or negotiates for facilities, personnel, support organizations, and funds required to carry out programs directly related to and directed towards the fulfillment of plant business objectives.
- Prepares, reviews, monitors and controls budgets. Is responsible for the allocation of the program budgets among organizations to most effectively address program requirements.
- Works closely with manufacturing to provide engineering support for the transition of products from development to production.
- Works closely with the Plant’s customers to help design new products, communicate problems, and provide a technical arm to support sales in our relationship with customers in achieving our goals.
- Directs and/or has responsibility for hiring, training, performance evaluation, salary changes, promotions, disciplinary action, and transfers of personnel for the organization within established guidelines and company policy.
- Holds direct reports accountable for the performance of their safety responsibilities. Supports company safety and health policies and includes consideration of safety requirements into the budgeting process.
- Implement on-going project status reviews using project management tools and engineering systems.
- Makes decisions on technical priorities or design alternatives for projects within the team’s scope.
- Acts as the primary technical contact on team or project performance and as an advisor to engineering or business unit leadership.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and assure customer needs are identified and addressed.
- Implement and maintain consistent engineering practices, standards, and documentation procedures.
- Takes appropriate steps to protect and safeguard intellectual property.
- Develops and analyzes the operating budget; projects and plans for future needs
- Compiles engineering cost data and identifies opportunities for process improvements to reduce cost or improve engineering productivity.
- Provides feedback to the team on performance to engineering cost targets.
- Communicates and implements actions to ensure department values and policies are well understood and maintained (e.g. business ethics; integrity; inclusion).
- Works with business development and program management to identify new business opportunities, present product capabilities, and clarify customers’ technical requirements.
- Identify and create technical training and development plans. Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others. Maintain leadership and technical capabilities through continued education or training.
- Must also have the willingness and ability to effectively interact with all employees.
- Performs other duties of equal or less complexity as assigned or directed by Management.
- Must know and follow all company and departmental safety rules.
Minimum qualifications:
- At least 5-8 years’ experience in the Investment Casting world as a senior engineer having total project responsibility. Also, directing/supervising engineers to achieve the goals of profit, quality, and delivery.
- A minimum Bachelor’s Engineering degree from an accredited university is required. Six Sigma/Lean certification preferred. Master’s degree is preferable, but not required.
- Candidate should have a good track record in delivering new ideas, managing projects with financial responsibility and provide leadership in directing engineers and others in finishing projects on time.
