Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has a career opportunity for a Director of Human Resources.

The Director of Human Resources has an instrumental role in cultivating a work environment reflective of the Hospital’s mission and values.

The role reports directly to the Vice President of Human Resources and will partner with other senior leaders and the legal department to respond to workplace issues related to city, state and federal regulations and labor union contracts.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for developing human resources policies that are designed to achieve the strategic objectives of the Hospital. The role is also responsible for coaching managers, investigating complaints, overseeing corrective actions, and educating leaders and staff about workplace matters.

In addition, the Director of Human Resources will represent the Hospital at grievance hearings, labor arbitrations and respond to regulatory complaints filed with agencies such as the New York City Division of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Juris Doctor Degree preferred.
  • Five years of experience in Human Resources, Risk Management or Regulatory Affairs or a Juris Doctor plus one year of experience working on and providing counsel regarding employment related matters.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the city, state and federal laws and regulations related to employment matters
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to draft communications that are easily understandable to leaders and staff members
  • Highly motivated and proactive, able to respond calmly and quickly in a changing environment
  • Comfortable working on and leading projects tangential to, but outside the boundaries of traditional Human Resources matters
