Taking the lead on this strategic imperative for the company, this global team is looking to define and deliver new services and capabilities to drive business differentiation, growth, and deliver a digital global payments Network that is an enabler of rapid innovation.


Description


Reporting to the VP of Product Development for New Payment Products, this role is an exciting opportunity for a talented product leader to drive a vision that enables new Network payment products that extend beyond credit into ‘debit like’ products. They will have the opportunity to stay on the cutting edge of innovative and disruptive digital payment solutions and directly contribute to the success of American Express.
The Director of New Payment Products for Direct to Bank will focus on the following key responsibilities:
  • Define new direct to bank payment capabilities and design the target state solution for the Network’s direct to bank products (e.g., account-to-account payments, bank transfers, faster payments, etc.) including the foundational connectivity, technical assets, and enabling services required.

  • Develop the direct to bank capabilities and services, collaborating with all business groups across the organization, to deliver the flawless execution of product delivery including infrastructure, technology, processes, policies, etc.

  • Design “minimum viable product” features and user stories as well as test and learn pilots that demonstrate value and proves out concepts, while aligning with the broader POA roadmap.

  • Prioritize business use cases for direct to bank capabilities based on quick wins, common requirements, business priority, etc. and manage ongoing assessments to revisit prioritization.

  • Create and maintain the direct to bank roadmap including new product features, enhanced services, updates to specifications, etc.

  • Evaluate market trends, competitive landscape, and customer feedback to identify new opportunities for value added products, services, and capabilities that can be bolted onto the core direct to bank capabilities to continue driving differentiated value.

  • Identify opportunities to buy, partner, or invest in external companies that will help to accelerate the Direct to Bank vision.

  • Work in close partnership with the business sponsor to create the go to market strategy for each direct to bank product including the operationalization plans, the commercialization strategy, articulation of the value proposition, and ongoing metrics to measure benefits realized.

  • Engage with and influence internal business unit leaders and partners to understand customer needs and pain points, collaborate on new/relevant product concepts, and co-develop solutions to gain new payment flows.

  • Partner closely with Technology to develop and maintain the ‘On Network’ governance framework to ensure the principles of the Network are observed as we build / integrate / introduce new capabilities into the Network.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience: 7 years minimum experience in developing new product strategies, go to market plans, and product roadmaps in financial services industry, ideally in the bank payment space.

  • Passion for payments and innovation
    : Passion to drive delivery in a fast-moving and innovative environment. Knowledge of payments industry and disruptive technologies, ideally expertise in bank payments.
  • Strategic thought leadership: Ability to synthesize and translate market and industry trends into opportunities for AXP to drive digital spend and further enhance our customer offering.
  • Leadership experience: Experience leading and cultivating high-performing product team and managing cross-functional teams to deliver large scale product launches.

  • Intellectual curiosity
