The Vice President will work closely with the CEO and Principals to lead our client engagements and to develop our client pipeline for future engagements. In this role, you’ll lead complex internal and external projects, which includes working onsite with our health care clients to manage strategic and operational deliverables. Project scopes may focus on clinical redesign, financial transformation, network development, strategic planning, data analytics and/or organizational transformation. This position requires expert-level working knowledge of the health care environment and market issues at the federal, state and local levels.

The Vice President, Consulting will specifically focus on the following areas:

  • Drive health care consulting business development, including the development of targeted sales strategies and market research for penetration within California, the Southwestern and the Northeastern U.S.
  • Develop value-add consulting services and products for hospitals, health plans and mid- to large size physician organizations
  • Support the Executive Vice Presidents in developing, implementing and maintaining consulting engagement standards and training for the consulting division, including the provision of technical quality assurance for engagement deliverables
  • Cross-sell consulting services in tandem with the Health Scholars team for their client base

The Vice President, Consulting must be willing to travel up to 80%, while effectively managing business development, major client engagements, projects, and team members.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive all assigned aspects of consulting engagements and other assigned contracts and projects from scope definition to delivery, assuming ultimate responsibility for contract deliverables, project resourcing and budget management
  • Build and manage relationships with key executives and staff at client sites to ensure the success of the engagement(s), including maintenance of engagement through communication and project management/coordination with assigned clients and stakeholders
  • Achieve annual revenue targets for the Vice President level through a combination of new and expanded business
  • Participate in creation of annual business development and revenue strategies and targets with Executive Team
  • Drive business development through internal and external activities, including authoring articles, drafting and driving client proposals, writing case studies and white papers, attending and speaking at professional conferences, and supporting our Population Health Summits
  • Develop, update and disseminate thought leadership documents related to areas of expertise
  • Develop peer-reviewed articles, sales materials, case studies, internal curricula and trainings
  • Represent the company, and client(s) as appropriate, at various professional networking, public relations, business development and fundraising events
  • Maintain deep, expert understanding of our firm’s service lines/offerings and differentiating factors with regards to main competitors. Build or refine tools, service lines and firm offerings as needed, based on current and future market demands
  • Own one or more internal organizational initiatives to improve or develop targeted processes, systems or resources as part of ongoing internal infrastructure building and continuous quality improvement in response to strategic objectives, client and internal team member feedback
  • Recruit and retain team members with the required current and future competencies to ensure account and firm profitability year over year
  • Ensure all account and direct reporting staff have a growth and development plan, and review all staff growth plans at quarterly Staff Development meetings with the executive team
  • Provide support to all company team members in areas including product development, market research, process improvement/performance excellence and provision of consulting services to clients
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and ethical standards
  • Must be able to travel to support business opportunities in our target markets nationwide

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an applicable field (MBA, MPH, MHA or similar) strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of work health care administration experience, in addition the ideal candidate will have at least 4+ years of health care consulting experience
  • Ability to travel up to 80% (Monday – Thursday)
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas strongly preferred:

Network Development

  • Experience in building networks for payors, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Independent Practice Associations (IPAs) and health systems
  • Experience with Managed Care Organizations and familiarity with developing and implementing Value-Based Payment strategies
  • Development of provider criteria, performance management and incentives
  • Deep experience in Medicaid/Medicare policies and programs
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for network adequacy, narrow networks and referrals management
  • Development of contracting and financial models for voluntary and employed physicians
  • Development of physician compensation plans, incentive structures and benchmarking

Care Management

  • Experience with IPAs, ACOs, MSOs, or clinically integrated health systems
  • Experience with risk-based payors and provider contracting
  • Prior experience in assessing health systems and programs to identify service gaps related to technology, data, resource utilization, and care interventions
  • Experience guiding value-based care transformation planning and implementation
  • Familiarity with the principles of population health management
  • Previous experience in clinical care management or social work practice OR strong understanding the clinical aspects of care management

Clinical Redesign

  • RN/Nursing background preferred
  • Experience in strategy and implementation of population health, clinical redesign and practice transformation for primary care and specialty care
  • Experience with IPAs, ACOs or population health vendors that have done implementations of clinical redesigns

Behavioral Health

  • Previous clinical experience OR experience managing populations with high behavioral health needs (e.g. mental health, substance use, pain management, etc.)
  • Experience with IDD, LTSS, and HCBS levels of care
  • Experience with the development and operation of behavioral health programs
  • Familiarity with innovative care models and trends related to behavioral health
  • Familiarity with Medicaid Managed Care and Medicaid Advantage
  • Strong project management skills required. Experience in project management or training in project/program management methodology (PMBOK), PMP certification preferred
  • Strong customer drive and dedication to quality and success
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide timely and effective feedback to project staff and team members
  • Experience developing external relationships and networks to support business development and professional growth
