About the role
We are looking for an Underground Project Manager to lead a team to deliver the safe and cost efficient development and construction of the underground mining projects followed by the transition to safe and efficient production operations. This role will develop, implement and continuously improve the safety, production and technical management systems for the mine, consistent with industry best practice and compliant with all RTK standards and policies.
This role is a great opportunity, you will actively work with all stakeholders from RTK and RTCD to facilitate best practice operations and development of technology and capability for current and future RTK and other RTCD underground development. Reporting to the Manager – Projects & Engineering Minerals, Rio Tinto Kennecott, you will:
- Develop, implement and continuously monitor the effectiveness of the approved mine safety management plan, providing leadership where deviation occurs.
- Identify, provide and then monitor appropriateness of resources to safely and efficiently deliver the project and production schedule.
- Monitor daily, weekly and monthly progress against schedule and provide leadership to the team were variance needs to be corrected.
- Champion and achieve industry leading benchmarks for safe and efficient development and open stope mining operations consistent with the ground conditions.
- Provide continuous and accurate operational reporting (as required) to inform the RTK and RTCD leadership on mine safety, development, construction, production and cost and schedule performance.
- Develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of technical management systems to safely manage the capital project and mining operations including the processes and interactions between mine engineering, mine survey, geology, geotechnical engineering, contractor management and other RTK operations.
- Work with RTKC and RTCD leadership to fully and efficiently utilise the group resources for stores, logistics, maintenance, business improvement, technical support and other sharable resources to efficiently execute the project and operations.
- Actively manage contractor performance to achieve benchmark productivity while ensuring compliance with all RTK and RTCD standards, policies and procedures.
- Champion the development, implementation and usage of technology solutions to progress future RT underground capabilities.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering
- Competency in Risk Management and Risk Assessment
- Competency in Financial and Business Improvement functions
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- 10+ years project, technical and operational underground mining experience.
- 5+ years direct mining operational leadership
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement world class safety and production management systems for underground development, construction and production operations.
- Demonstrated ability to implement and manage continuous improvement processes
