PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Full time | Hempstead Farm and Houston, Texas Office
General Summary
The Program Director plays the critical role of task manager for educational programs offered at Blackwood. S/he plans all Blackwood programs, and then executes and implements strategy to ensure the programs meet their target goals/audience and run smoothly to meet the Blackwood mission. The Program Director is responsible, an obvious people person, and thrives on making an order out of chaos.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Events and Programs may include: Camps, School Field Trips & Overnights, Farm Tours, Day on the Farm Events, Fundraising Festivals, etc.
Communications & Marketing
- Responsible for managing communication with staff, clients, speakers, schools, vendors, and parents
- Create & implement marketing strategy including photography, Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads
- Create collateral and write copy for all events including flyers, branding, and social media graphics
- Manages website including updating pages with new copy and adding new pages as needed
- Outline and write monthly and event specific newsletters utilizing MailChimp platform
- Lead editor for all staff and contract written copy
Financial
- Manage billing and invoicing across Quickbooks, Square, and Stripe
- Create and oversee program specific budgets
- Track, report, and reconcile data for budgeting purposes
- Maintain accounting information including scholarships for camp
Human Resources/Management
- Hires temporary and seasonal staff for educational programs and summer camp
- Provide new staff onboarding as well as training for seasonal and temporary staff
- Coordinate and delegate staff for programs and events
Programming
- Project management, registration, scheduling and planning for all programs
- Full management of summer camp program including hiring, training, and living onsite for camp sessions
- Work with education team to plan, lead, and facilitate camp and educational programs
- Occasionally fulfills role of Educator for field trips, teaching Blackwood curriculum
- Purchases supplies and materials for summer camp program
- Assist in the continued development of curriculum and lesson plans
- Maintain program compliance with local and state laws
- Tracks applicable forms and documentation for schools and campers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs
- Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time
- Ability to work outside for extended periods of time, regardless of weather conditions
- Must maintain WAFA certification and Food Handlerâs license
- Must have own vehicle and a valid Driverâs License
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Must enjoy working with children and educating
- Highly proficient with MS Office, Google Apps and Drive
- Ability to effectively project manage and facilitate communications between staff and customers
- Experience with InDesign, Canva, WordPress, Dropbox, MailChimp, Quickbooks, Square, Stripe
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work across multiple functions in multiple environments, both urban and rural
- Ability to work some weekends and adjust to program schedules
- Must be able to stay onsite occasionally (cabin provided) for overnight programs and camp
- Demonstrates initiative and is a self-starter
