Director of Volunteer Services

Good Samaritan Hospice is the only not-for-profit, community based hospice in the Roanoke and New River Valleys and SML. For 10 years straight, GSH has won gold in the Our Health Senior Living Awards category for hospice. We are seeking a Director of Volunteer Services to oversee the development & operation of the volunteer department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers.

· Provide family support & office volunteer training programs to meet the organizations needs and regulatory guidelines.

· Create and maintain training materials and coordinate educational in-services.

· Create and coordinate specialty volunteer programs such as the Ambassad, Doula, and Veteran Outreach programs.

· Work with the community relations department in publicity, promotion, and outreach efforts.

· Supervise Volunteer Coordinators at both Roanoke and Christiansburg locations.

· Manage information on volunteers and the department.

· Participate in appropriate professional programs and organizations, and community activities for volunteer recruitment purposes.

Job Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree & two years’ experience in human services or related field preferred; or a minimum of three years’ experience coordinating a human service program with volunteer involvement.

· Experience in a non-profit or medical setting preferred.

· Excellent problem solving, communication and decision making skills.

· Excellent public speaking ability.

· Ability to function as a team member, assume a leadership role, and supervise others

· Virginia driver license, good driving record and reliable transportation.
