Job Summary
The Associate Vice President for Health System Quality Operations is responsible for identifying, planning, and leading the implementation of key comprehensive and integrated strategies in support of the Office of the Chief Quality Officer. Reporting directly to the CQO, the AVP will direct and integrate critical functions that are essential to efficient and effective execution of health system goals with analytics, project management and performance improvement all reporting directly to this position. Functions include evaluating quality operations; analyzing data and information for reporting and informed decision making; recommending solutions to help achieve health system goals, strategic objectives and operational excellence. The AVP will ensure the coordination of activities across the areas of analytics, performance improvement, and project management to achieve these goals and strategic objectives.
Experience and Education
- Bachelorâs degree in related field and ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in the following: building a team and service-oriented environment; proven record of strong strategic planning and management experience; demonstrated ability to closely collaborate with colleagues, senior leadership, and key stakeholders to ensure that resources are used effectively to grow a culture of continuous improvement and innovation; formal training and experience in industrial engineering or performance improvement. Experience working with relational databases and other critical tools and solutions used to support formal data-driven decision making. Ten (10) or more years experience in an academic medical center setting preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
- Masterâs degree in industrial engineering, systems engineering, or other relevant field.
Job Duties
The AVP will plan, direct, and coordinate activities and programs in the area of Quality Operations, and provide leadership for the following functions:
- Analytics
- Develops performance metrics and business intelligence tools, sustaining scorecards and dashboards and turning data into information/knowledge
- Guides information discovery and offers recommendations to enable effective decision making
- Analyzes current and emerging trends in quality and operational excellence to provide strategic approaches to improve the Health Systemâs performance
- Surveys internal practice and comparative industry benchmarks to analyze trends and indicators in related areas of work
- Guides the development of quality outcome goals, target methodologies and thresholds, and ensures accuracy of measure results
- Understands customer business needs, translates business needs into analytics/reporting requirements to ensure successful delivery of reporting, dashboards and information tools.
- Safeguards the integrity and security of institutional data
- Performance Improvement
- Performance improvement to include clinical decision support, data analysis and facilitating clinical and operational teams with process improvement methods
- Application of human factors to error prone processes
- Performing flow analysis to improve patient appointment scheduling in a clinical setting (using swim lanes, value stream mapping, queuing theory, time driven activity based costing)
- Using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to analyze processes and eliminate wastes and defects on a hospital unit
- Develops content to elevate the level of continuous improvement knowledge across the organization and partners with others to optimize delivery mechanisms.
- Project Management
- Oversees project management efforts within the health system to ensure established goals are met
- Assists in the prioritization and deployment of health system projects to advance the organization in the area of quality and operational excellence
- Systems Management
- Develops a system to operationalize strategic decisions within the health system to meet expected levels of performance inclusive of structure, performance standards, reporting and review
- Assists with identifying priorities and needs, determining how best to align and invest resources
- Helps develop consistent practice standards to ensure the delivery of high quality care
- Engages in research regarding new technologies and practices and works with subject matter experts to make recommendations for improvements
- Work to establish a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the health system that includes psychological safety, transparency and interdisciplinary approaches to provide high quality care
- Financial Planning, Analysis and Management
- Assists Chief Quality Officer with budget planning and development, assisting individual programs and cost centers with financials and reviewing and approving financial transactions where appropriate
- Human Capital Management
- Serves as Human Resources liaison, works closely with department supervisors to handle all HR related processes, reviews and approves PeopleSoft HCM transactions
- Assists Chief Quality Officer with employee engagement efforts and action planning to ensure health work environment and engaged workforce
