This role is a key part of our senior leadership team and reports to the President of Milgard and will have a high level of interaction with MI Windows and the Board of Directors. The incumbent will help drive business growth and profitability, participate in setting the strategy and direction of the business, and shares responsibility for the overall business results with primary day-to-day responsibility for Manufacturing, Quality, Distribution, Logistics, and Continuous Improvement. This leader is also involved in responsibilities associated with the business’ long range and annual operating plans in addition to overseeing the financial success of all aspects for this role through achievement of established targets and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
- As a member of the executive leadership team, takes a leadership role in the development of Milgard’s long range and annual operating plans of the business. Defines and articulates the strategic operational vision, sets focus and work priorities for Operations.
- Translates the overall operation strategy into day-to-day execution, providing coaching and feedback to the team. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business.
- Keep President fully informed in a timely and candid manner of the conduct of the operations of the Corporation towards the achievement of its established goals and of all material deviations from the goals or objectives and policies established by the President.
- Development of pre-opening business plans for new concepts, remodels, and new market entry or merger and acquisition activity.
- Continuously evaluates and drives improvement in the practices, processes, procedures, organization structure and people under their management.
- Develops talent for current and future needs of the business. Includes attracting, retaining and transitioning talent within Milgard’s Operations function and throughout the organization.
- Effective communication and collaboration with the other executive team members and maintaining a system of regular communication of company objectives, changes and area concerns to all management levels.
- Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, and core values and behaviors.
Operations/Quality/Continuous Improvement
- Familiar with Lean/Six-sigma/Business Operating System concept and application. Identify objectives and opportunities to continuously improve efficiency, consistency and synergy throughout the operation sites and across functional areas.
- Build production capacity to manufacturing products/equipment to anticipate and support business needs and work towards world class manufacturing status.
- Operate production at scale to be more cost competitive.
- Conduct financial/operating analysis to determine manufacturing facility optimization. Establish clear timeline on MFO initiatives. Monitor key metrics to ensure MFO is delivering as planning with minimal disruption to customers and revenue.
- Develop quality strategy and initiatives to ensure the positive business impact by partnering with cross-functional resources across multiple site/locations.
- Have a continuous improvement mind-set with a passion for driving waste out of the business.
Logistics/Distribution
- Responsible for overall development and execution of distribution and logistics strategy
- Develop and manage distribution strategy and best practices to drive business growth and cost effectiveness.
- Understand design and engineering perspectives of key products to determine opportunity to improve function or cost efficiency.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure the support of execution of Environment, Health and Safety practices for the Corporation and oversee compliance with those practices in partnership with EHS function.
- Assess and manage the principal risks of the Corporation’s business within operations (proposals, projects and staffing).
Required Experience
- 15 plus years of demonstrated success as an experienced VP of Operations/Manufacturing or Chief Operations Officer (COO) for a $400M plus multi-site, complex consumer/manufacturing organization. Public company experiences preferred.
- Strong business acumen and talent development and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience in linking business with operational results. Accomplished in turn around business.
- Demonstrated success and extensive experience in acquisitions and divestitures, and business integrations.
- Superior collaboration and communication skills with executive presence.
- Strong strategic, planning, organizational and change management skills; also, conflict management abilities.
- Demonstrated success designing and improving an Ops organization’s practices, processes, procedures and organizational structure, understanding of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrable competency and experience in strategic planning, business development, and executing business strategies at multiple location enterprise level.
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving in ever changing business environment.
- Demonstrated success building high performance teams and developing people.
- Process focused and result driven. Understand priorities and can deliver result by plan.
- Demonstrated experience in Lean/Six-sigma/business operating system, data analysis and performance/ operation metrics.
- Working knowledge and experience with an enterprise-wide ERP system.
- Would prefer experience in a Build to Order manufacturing environment with short lead times.

- Ability to work in a high performing team and able to influence other functional leaders (peers) to drive Milgard towards superior business performance in a fast-paced environment
Required Education
- BS/BA in Business Administration or Engineering, Supply Chain, or relevant field; MS/MBA is a plus.
- Lean / Six Sigma Certification preferred.
