College Unbound’s Vice President for Administration and Innovation will assist the President as chief of staff in carrying out the core mission of the College. That person should be familiar with and embrace the educational philosophy developed by Big Picture Learning and College Unbound. This Vice President will be a “dreamer and doer,’ a person capable of motivating others. Most of all, the person will be a learner, ready to more deeply understand the role of a leader of innovation in higher education for adults. The President will serve as a mentor and a model of these leadership skills, including a commitment to a culture of diversity and inclusion. The College’s Vice President for Administration and Innovation will be a speaker and a writer and have the aptitude to do fundraising along with other senior staff.
College Unbound is a degree completion college, located in Providence, Rhode Island. It was begun ten years ago as a spinoff of Big Picture Learning, which has helped to develop more than 170 schools around the world. The learning model is student driven, where individual projects are supported by cohorts of students and a Lab Faculty member. College Unbound is in the final stage of regional accreditation (in candidacy), and the United States Department of Education has approved CU as eligible for Title IV funds. CU is a growing enterprise, focused on people who been unable to complete a college degree elsewhere. In Rhode Island alone, there are 140,000 people who started college but never finished (35 million nationally). Our vision is to lead the nation in reinventing college for adult learners.
