Overview
The Scrum Master has a working knowledge and experience with the Scrum and Kanban agile frameworks and a level of familiarity or experience with other frameworks as necessary (i.e. XP, Lean, SAFe, etc.). Often considered a coach for the team, the Scrum Master is responsible to ensure a team lives by the values and practices of the agile framework in use, and assists the team in understanding and practicing it efficiently. A Scrum Masterâs main deliverable is a high performing team that continues to deliver continual increased business value.
Responsibilities
- Guide the team on using the appropriate agile framework practices and values to meet or exceed the business partner or client expectations

Promote team engagement
- Nurture a safe team environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on problem solving
- Guide the team to be self-organized

Facilitate ceremonies, team sessions/conversations and decision making, conflict resolution
- Coach the team and Product Owner to ensure the product backlog is groomed to satisfy the team agreements

Promote team engagement
- Assess the Maturity of the team and organization in using the adopted agile framework and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and the organization
- Remove impediments and guide the team to remove impediments

Engage in solution delivery, which includes the quality, efficiency and timeliness of work being done.
- Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning or dictating the work
- Own and facilitate development team stand-up and retrospective ceremonies
- Promote team collaboration and efficiencies; ensure process adherence; improve transparency; provide team-level information radiators
- Promote expectations of high performing teams and desired behaviors
- Demonstrate servant leadership; lead by example.
- Drive for continued individual growth. Collaborate with other Scrum Masters and the coaching team to promote perpetual growth
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Science or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Agile certifications, such as CSM, PMI-ACP or PSM, preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- First level Scrum Master certification (CSM)
- At least two years experience in a Scrum Master role with a software development team that is applying Scrum or Kanban principles and practices
- Proficient in TFS, MS CRM, Excel, Access, or other database utilities and other Microsoft technologies

- Working knowledge and experience with Scrum and Kanban agile frameworks and the industry standard patterns and techniques for practicing; a level of familiarity with various other frameworks (e.g. XP, Lean, SAFe)
- Demonstrated competency developing effective solutions to successfully resolve diverse and complex business problems
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrates a level of technical acumen
- Recognize opportunities for continuous improvement. Able to collect, assess, educate on the effective use of meaningful data and metrics to enable a team to move towards high performance the delivery of increasing business value
- Creatively and effectively utilizes methods to increase transparency and visibility through information radiators
- Solid interpersonal and collaboration skills as well as verbal and written communication skills. Able to identify, navigate, and facilitate teams through team dysfunction and conflict resolution
- Strong facilitation skills to effectively navigate through conversations, ceremonies/meetings or other engagements with neutrality
- Deliver existing workshops and training sessions for the teams
- Exhibit a growth and learning mindset for personal and team growth in order to best serve the organization
