Ohana Biosciences is seeking an experienced and innovative Head of Protein Therapeutics to drive cutting-edge science in the field of reproductive biology.

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, you will be responsible for leading a team in the characterization of novel proteins for Ohana’s biologics pipeline. You will play a key role in the development of new biologics and reproductive medicine devices from discovery to early stage clinical development. As a senior member of the Research leadership, you will leverage your deep biologics development experience and contribute to overall strategy and prioritization of our programs. You will lead and develop a team while collaborating within a dynamic and entrepreneurial organization and leveraging the expertise of numerous external vendors.

What You’ll Do

  • Be responsible for leading the discovery and candidate selection of protein therapeutics, including in vitro pharmacology, biophysical property, and developability criteria more generally to advance programs in support of our pipeline and platform


  • Bring your understanding of regulatory guidelines and expectations and serve a key role in the protein therapeutic IND filings


  • Contribute to the design and development of sperm heterogeneity platform that identifies biomarkers and separation tools for advancing reproductive medicine


  • Seek and foster existing and new collaborations across the Research team and Ohana


  • Participate and/or lead cross-functional development teams


  • Identify and lead interactions with key external advisors and resources/vendors to advance programs where we do not have expertise


  • Guide planning, designing, and execution of experiments


  • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of scientists and research associates


  • Manage resources effectively to support the drug development pipeline with a focus on applying rigorous, high standards to the work, while consistently completing deliverables within program timelines and maximizing the potential impact of protein biochemistry deliverables on programs

What You’ll Bring

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field with 10 plus years of related experience


  • Deep expertise in protein therapeutics, in-vitro pharmacology, biophysical properties and developability criteria


  • Demonstrated track record and passion for leading and growing a multifunctional research team in a fast-paced
    , dynamic organization with projects ranging from basic science to clinical development


  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and multidisciplinary environment – previous start-up experience is a great plus


  • Collaborative attitude with a strong work ethic and self-motivation


  • Ability to think critically and creatively


  • Comfort asking questions and seeking clarity, even when it is outside your main domain of expertise


  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and multidisciplinary environment


  • High level of adaptability and responsiveness to technical and business opportunities and needs


  • Comfort handling parallel tasks, identifying key areas of focus, and delivering within fast-paced deadlines


  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts across functions
