Gallery Director for the SAA Collective
A small town art gallery is looking for a high energy Gallery Director with fresh ideas, superior computer skills and social media savvy. Minimum requirements include a BA or BFA in studio arts or art history and gallery/sales experience. The SAA Collective is a member gallery representing 80+ artists from across central Illinois who have been juried into membership. The SAA Collective is a division of the Springfield Art Association (SAA). The SAA is Springfieldâs Community Visual Arts organization with classes, exhibitions, events, and programs for all ages.
The Gallery Director position is full time, with some evening and weekends required for receptions and events.
Job Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the gallery, including inventory, exhibition documentation, sales
Work with the member artists, staff of the SAA, SAA Board of Directors, patrons and collectors.
Work with SAA Office Manager on all accounting and database maintenance
Work with the Treasurer to create and adhere to an annual budget for gallery operations
Market and promote the gallery and related events
Coordinate member artists with Artsy website representation
Work with the events committee on all gallery related fundraising events and activities
Schedule and train all gallery assistants and volunteers
SELL ART!!
Minimum Qualifications
BA or BFA in Studio Arts, Art History or Design
At least three years of experience in retail sales or service industry
Exhibition curatorial experience
Exhibition installation and art handling experience
Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
Marketing and Social media skills
Basic accounting and database entry skills
Physical Requirements
Moving artwork, pedestals and arranging lighting regularly requires basic fitness and an ability to lift as much as 50 pounds.
Some evenings and weekends are required for exhibition receptions and events
Travel to the SAA main campus, about one mile, will be required regularly for meetings
No out of town travel will be required
Compensation
The position starts at a rate of approximately $28,000 per year. It includes medical insurance, two weeks of paid vacation, sick leave, and a simple IRA retirement plan.
