The Project Manager of cityLAB, a research and design center housed in a major city and part of the Department of Architecture and Urban Design in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, is a full-time position with two major sets of responsibilities: research project management and administration. Within the research project management component, there are currently two key initiatives at cityLAB: a range of affordable housing efforts, and embedded fieldwork in an underserved Los Angeles neighborhood. The successful candidate will have a primary role in the housing initiative and a secondary role in the other. cityLAB’s administrative needs include project management, grant writing, grant management, financial and budgeting responsibilities, event planning and coordination, and office administration. Good writing skills are a must. The position is one that requires collaboration, and an ability to think across all aspects of innovative research in urbanism and architecture.

Required/Preferred

Architectural and planning background; advanced degree(s).

Preferred

Research experience especially with regard to a range of methods, such as social science methods, fieldwork, GIS, mapping, design, quantitative analysis, etc.

Experience with community engagement.

Ability and experience managing students (undergraduates and graduates from across campus) and assisting faculty.

Ability and experience with report writing, research documents, and bibliographic research.

General knowledge of web-platforms, editing of online content, website management.

Design and graphic facility for laying out research reports, grant proposals, media, flyers; familiarity with visual software (InDesign, Photoshop, video making, etc).

Exceptional oral and written communication skills for working with students, faculty, administration, civic agencies, community members, donors, granting agencies, and foundations.

Excellent attention to detail in managing project timelines, expenses, and workflow.

Skill with arranging events, exhibitions, symposia, both on campus and off.

Willingness to be flexible with work schedule as needed.
