Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Engagement is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Student Leadership & Activities. This is a full-time, benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.
The Office of Student Engagement furthers the educational and inspirational mission of Shenandoah University by providing learning opportunities through student involvement and promoting purposeful and inclusive co-curricular environments with shared expectations.
The Assistant Director for Student Leadership & Activities serves an integral role in Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Engagement; assisting students in gaining an education that fully engages them in a democratic, vibrant, and healthy environment within the context of their co-curricular activities in and outside of the classroom.
The Assistant Director for Student Leadership & Activities is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations Student Clubs and Organizations, the Student Government Association, Campus Activities Network (CAN), Pep Band, and campuslabs.com (Collegiate Link). This person will be responsible for oversight of at least one Graduate Assistant and multiple student employees.
The Assistant Director for Student Leadership & Activities is a member of the Division of Student Life and reports to the Director of Student Engagement.
Core Responsibilities:
- Administrative oversight and management of the day-to-day operations for Student Clubs and Organizations. This includes managing Campuslabs.com (Collegiate Link), including roster updates, fundraising approvals, officer and faculty advisor training.
- Administrative oversight and management of the day-to-day operations for the Student Government Association (SGA). This includes Officer training and retreats, elections, budgetary responsibilities, payroll approval and leadership for the House of Delegates.
- Campus Activities Network – Serve as a supervisor for the Campus Activities Network (CAN) Graduate Assistant and up to 20 work-study students. Assist with scheduling and payroll approval for all CAN employees while providing leadership and guidance along with on-sight supervision of various CAN programs.
- Pep Band – Work in conjunction with Pep Band leadership to provide guidance and support in appearances and performances. Assist the faculty advisors in the financial management of club resources.
Required Skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Two or more years of experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
- Prior experience working in Student Government/Clubs and Organizations, Student Activities, Student Leadership Development, or a similar department within Student Life is highly desirable.
- Must be capable of developing working relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis.
- Decision-making, the capacity to troubleshoot, and the ability to implement creative solutions are essential.
- Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
- Note: A pre-employment background check and drug screen will be required as a condition of employment. If the job requires driving for University business, a satisfactory driving record will also be required.
