We have day program locations in Brooklyn Park, Eagan, Apple Valley, Mankato, and Hastings; community employment teams in Hennepin County and the East and South Metro Areas; and serve over 1,700 families through fiscal services.
Position Overview:
Lifeworks Services is seeking a full-time exempt Vice President of Advancement to lead the fundraising, marketing and communications functions for the organization. This position is responsible for building the fundraising programs for Lifeworks and supporting program with new marketing initiatives to support growth in competitive service lines and new business development. The Vice President is also a contributing member of the executive leadership team which is responsible for developing the strategic direction and priorities for the organization.
Responsibilities:
· As the thought leaders for Advancement, lead and oversee the building and development of all functions of the team: marketing, communications, fundraising; strategic, operational and management planning; and best practices, systems and software solutions.
· Provide staff support for the Board of Directors Development Committee.
· Ensure departmental decisions are based on organizational values and compliant with applicable administrative and legal regulations. Establish the department’s annual budget and manage expenses.
· Collaborate effectively with program service teams to understand and support philanthropy and marketing needs and opportunities; and identify immediate and future funding needs with service line leaders and build cases of support for fundraising activities.
· Develop and execute fundraising plans; lead development of signature fundraising and stewardship events; and build new relationships with people from all groups of stakeholders.
· Lead and manage donor portfolios and oversee grant activities.
· Ensure marketing campaigns are designed using market research and customer input, and are developed collaboratively with program leaders to support growth objectives
· Ensure external and internal communications inform and engage the people we serve, their families, our broad network of supporters, and our employees.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
· A four-year degree in marketing, communications or related field and a minimum of ten years combined work experience in business development, fundraising, marketing and communications; a minimum of five of the ten years in the nonprofit sector.
· Strong financial acumen; experience running successful fundraising campaigns and signature organizational events.
· Experience working effectively with others to reach common goals and objectives; skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers across different levels of the organization and externally.
· Experience in strategic planning and long- and short term-planning. Experience leading and managing projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers and board of directors.
· Proactive leadership: ability to lead and operate independently, and inform and consult when needed.
· Ability to take initiative and actively strengthen the organization’s current relationships and develop new relationships with individuals and corporations.
· Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications to convey complex ideas through brief and relatable materials. Keen self-awareness and emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills required when working with internal and external stakeholders.
· Must pass both a background study with the Minnesota Department of Human Services and a pre-employment drug test. Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and, insurance on your vehicle, and reliable transportation for work purposes.
Highly Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
· Master’s degree in business, marketing, or related field
· Experience or familiarity with successful fundraising and marketing for an organization that is virtually 100% government funded. Proven track record of transitioning an organization away from reliance on government funding strongly preferred.
· Knowledge of disability services sector or similar human services, particularly the complexities of government licensing, unfunded service requirements and RFP guidelines.
