Position Summary
The Vice President, Biosimilars is responsible for leading the ongoing evolution of Cardinalâs Pharmaceutical Segment cross-business biosimilars strategy, ensuring aligned execution and delivery of biosimilars business targets.
The position is responsible for the systematic and collaborative process of actively supporting adoption of biosimilars across Cardinal customers by leveraging existing and building new integrated solutions through a myriad of Cardinal businesses: Insights and Engagement, Sonexus, Pharmaceutical Distribution, Specialty Distribution, Innovative Delivery Solutions and our five GPOs (VitalSource, Cornerstone Partners, Renal Purchasing Group, Acuity and NeuroLogic).
Areas of focus for solutions will include, clinical education, tools and services enabling insight into the economics of adoption, reimbursement and payer coverage and patient support in compliance with applicable policies, legal and regulatory requirements.
In addition to new solutions, this role will be responsible for identifying and developing opportunities for new business models and new collaborations / partnerships with external organizations, enabling the creation of new revenue streams.
The Vice-President, Biosimilars will serve as the internal subject matter expert and represent Cardinal Health as a spokesperson for industry events; this leader will also participate in key customer, senior level manufacturer and other stakeholder meetings.
Given the nature of the position, this is a home office, remote based role. This position report to the Vice President, GPO Specialty Solutions.
Position Accountabilities
- Go-to expert on state of biosimilars industry (clinical, regulatory, competitive, reimbursement, economics, etc.)
- Identify resources across the business to support sustainable growth of biosimilars in Cardinalâs businesses and monitor and track biosimilar adoption rates and prices in real time
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of best practices in biosimilars including contracts, services and sales processes for multiple, complex categories and manufacturers
- Develops contracting and sales strategy specific for multiple and or complex categories
- Initiates, plans and follows for execution of complex projects
- Identifies, evaluates and selects preferred manufacturers and strategies
- Executes contract terms, conditions, service sales negotiation plan to manage risk and optimize benefit
- Develops and manages strategic relationship with assigned manufacturers
- Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of the specialty marketplace, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects
- Participates in the development of offerings to and with manufacturers to achieve specific goals
- Recommends and sells services, programs, processes, metrics or models internally and externally
- Works on and leads complex projects of large scope
- Assigned projects may have significant and long-term impact
- Provides and sells solutions
- Develops guidance on overall project objectives for all internal and external stakeholders
Position Qualifications
- Graduate degree (MD, PharmD or PhD) required; MBA preferred
- Prior experience launching products in the pharmaceutical industry
- 15+ years of professional experience
- Strong clinical and business acumen
- Track record of success with developing and executing biosimilars strategies
- Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with clinical and business leaders
- Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively and interact with personnel at all levels of technical ability and expertise
