Job Overview
Ascend Learning is seeking a motivated, energetic individual for the position of Scrum Master in our Leawood, KS office. This individual will be the facilitator of agile development and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills. As part of the Technical Operations organization, the Scrum Master will be responsible for the agile delivery of one or more product lines in the Professional Education division of Ascend . The Scrum Master will have responsibility for optimizing the Agile process while also serving as a âculture champion,â ensuring that the Engineering teams are thriving. The Scrum Master is a servant leader who is passionate about helping team members grow and succeed by removing obstacles and celebrating team victories, both big and small.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide detailed planning and project management utilizing Agile methodologies in conjunction with Ascend-specific standards
- Establish regular communication with Product Owners to understand the feature roadmap and prioritize User Stories for upcoming sprints.
- Exhibit confidence to challenge team members and upper management when decisions conflict with project scope, change management best practices, and overall goals.
- Detect project risks and potential mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate decision-making, issue resolution and consensus among the team with full understanding of time/cost/scope impacts.
- Identify, own and remove impediments for the team on a daily basis.
- Track metrics of team progress, productivity and success and report through KPIs.
- Be a change agent to enable a culture in which scrum teams can flourish and be heard.
- Serve as a mentor who transfers Agile knowledge and experience to the team.
- Recognize cross team dependencies and effectively align work to meet project goals.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years as a Scrum Master with a solid understanding of technical concepts.
- Proven history of managing software development projects using Agile methodologies.
- Awareness and experience with widely accepted Agile techniques: User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing Programming, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
- Experience creating KPIs, dashboards and metrics.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead through influence.
- Strong independent leadership skills with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines, in a results-oriented environment.
- Provide creative, out of the box solutions to solve challenging problems.
- Agile Certifiied Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or other relevant certification preferred.
- Experience with lean development principles preferred.
Education and Experience
- B.S. in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent experience.
