Position Description

  • Responsible for directing all activities associated with the inspection and maintenance of Santee Cooper’s state-wide network of transmission lines, including right-of-ways, to ensure safe, reliable, and economical electric service to our customers.
  • When assigned by Project Management, also responsible for directing the construction of limited scope substation and transmission line additions.
  • Coordinates with ECC during emergency operations in the event of a disaster or other outage to the bulk transmission system.

  • Essential Job Tasks:

  • Plans and directs the functional strategies of Transmission Lines (Northern, Central, and Southern Transmission Areas), Area Engineering, and Right-of-Way Management work groups, emphasizing safety, efficiency and effort of employees.
  • Develops and monitors annual capital and O&M budget that will support all planned maintenance and/or operational responsibilities.
  • Develops and utilizes performance measures for major activities to track efficiency and to support decision making on alternative construction and/or maintenance strategies.
  • Ensures that a preventive maintenance program is executed efficiently on all transmission lines to provide our customers with the most reliable system within economical guidelines, while protecting the Santee Cooper’s investment in the transmission system.
  • Ensures that construction and maintenance projects are accomplished in a timely manner and within budget guidelines, providing all as-built and attribute information to other entities within the company.
  • Ensures that a Vegetation Management Program that meets or exceeds NERC Standards is in place for the transmission lines designated as critical to grid operations, and that the program is effective for all other transmission facilities to provide our customers with the most reliable transmission system within economical guidelines.
  • Maintains operational service relations with Central Electric and its 15 member cooperatives, Santee Cooper Distribution, municipalities, government installations, and the industrial customers connected to the bulk transmission system.
  • Assists in resolving operating problems with all customers directly served from the transmission system.
  • Ensures that Area Transmission Engineering unit is supporting transmission operational areas, and that all facilities are constructed and maintained to strict engineering standards that meet or exceed NESC requirements.
  • Directs the asset management of transmission line facilities and right-of-ways in the corporate Graphic Information System (GIS).
  • Recommends enhancements to the GIS and other TS investments that increase the productivity of Transmission Operations.
  • Ensures that the necessary resources, manpower and equipment are available to maintain the bulk transmission system in the most efficient and economical manner, providing the highest reliability at the lowest cost possible.
  • Directs the use of the Work Management Information System, (WMIS), in Transmission Operations.
  • Directs emergency disaster operations for the combined SC/Central transmission lines in conjunction with the Emergency Action Plan for Power System Disasters.
  • Represents Power Delivery on the Corporate EAP Committee.
  • Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited university and a minimum of twelve years of electric utility experience in Transmission and/or Distribution design and operations preferred.
  • Five years of experience in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Professional Engineering Registration required.

    $152,560-$190,690 (min.-mid.)
