Head of State & Local Government Affairs

As Dropbox’s Head of State and Local Government Affairs, you will own the development of state and local public policy positions for issues most important to Dropbox, Dropboxers, and our users. You will focus on state and local policy and politics throughout the United States, but with a particular emphasis on California. You will analyze policy issues critical to our business, drive the creation and refinement of strategic policy positions, prioritize policy interests against business objectives, and work to advance our interests with state and local government legislators and regulators. You will represent Dropbox in a variety of settings and build advocacy coalitions with our industry partners and civil society. Your experience and understanding of the policy environment within state and local governments will enable you to act as a strategic adviser inside Dropbox and as a strong ambassador outside.

This role will report to our Director of U.S. Government Affairs and will be based in San Francisco, with travel throughout California and the United States as needed.

Responsibilities

• Advocate our policy positions in state and local level executive, regulatory, and legislative settings
• Develop Dropbox’s policy positions at the state and local level, drive cross-functional consensus around these positions, and craft policy position documents, talking points, and other materials for internal and external communication
• Represent Dropbox at external events related to policy and political issues
• Partner with industry leaders, trade associations, civil society organizations, think tanks, and other external constituents to build support for our policy positions
• Provide strategic advice to company executives on Dropbox’s policy priorities
• Partner with product and business teams across our offices to understand and counsel on the state and local policy implications of strategic decisions

Requirements

• 8+ years experience in policy settings, prior policy experience with a technology company or trade association preferred
• Politically savvy with experience working with California state and local government officials, industry partners, and civil society organizations
• Skilled at advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences, persuasively and diplomatically
• Results driven, action-oriented self-starter
• Demonstrated ability to communicate policy and strategy concepts in a concise and persuasive manner, both written and verbally.
• Passionate and knowledgeable about technology policy
• Adept at building relationships at the individual level and coalitions at the organization level
• Guided by a personal integrity that reflects Dropbox’s core values and commitment to our users’ trust
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a fast paced team environment
• Experience with project and team management, and a desire to build a team in a hyper-growth environment
