What You Will Do:
As the Director of Strategic Communications for Public Affairs, you will collaborate with senior business stakeholders to create and implement strategic external communications, issues management and public relations in support of business objectives and reputation enhancement. This person has the ability to investigate and respond quickly to inquiries from business lines and/or news media; collaborate with the communications team and business line subject matter experts; collect relevant information, identify appropriate spokespeople, fact-check and create messaging.

You will learn to engage with a team of ambitious professionals who bring fresh ideas and diverse perspectives. You will help us develop and implement Transamerica’s national communications program in support of business objectives and reputation enhancement.


What Success Looks Like:

  • Collaborate with senior business stakeholders to create and implement strategic external communications, issues management and public relations in support of business objectives and reputation enhancement.
  • Investigate and respond quickly to inquiries from business lines and/or news media; collaborate with communications team and business line subject matter experts; collect relevant information, identify appropriate spokespeople, fact-check and prepare messaging.
  • Create written content for external communications including talking points for key spokespeople, and proactive/reactive communications for external stakeholders/news media.
  • Provide project management for coordinated communications plans; manage pipeline and calendar.
  • Monitor media coverage regarding business news and industry/competitor developments.
  • Proactively pitch news media for placement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with social media team regarding issues management.
  • Represent Transamerica with various community groups and civic organizations in support of the company’s positioning and customer-centric focus.
  • Understand and meet regulatory/compliance requirements.
  • Work with external agencies to manage priorities, opportunities, and track budget.


What You Need:

  • Eight years+ experience in corporate communications, issues management, reputation management or public relations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Advanced proficiency using MS Office.
  • Able to travel within U.S. for meetings a few times each year.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight years+ experience in financial services.
  • Experience in meeting regulatory/compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with insurance, investments and/or retirement solutions.
  • Experience working with financial services distributors, agents, advisors and/or customers.
