Min Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Nursing or an advanced degree in Biomedical discipline with 5-7 years related experience Board certified or eligible by ABAT, board cert-ABMT/ABMS in med toxicology or aTexas licensed/eligible M.D.JOB DESCRIPTION:To provide administrative direction and technical guidance in the management of the functions of the poison center.
Salary Range

Salary is commensurate with experience.


Specific Job Related Duties

Scope: UTMB Galveston and 28 counties in Southeast Texas and also rollover/backup for the State of Texas


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains the operational functions of the Poison Center to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provides leadership and oversees the management of the clinical, educational, and administrative support staff.
  • Develops and manages all aspects of department budget including preparation, submission, maintenance, audits, and reporting.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, retention, training and development of the full staff to include, but not limited to: interviews/hiring, performance appraisals, salary changes, reclassifications, and discipline.
  • Provides for the care and maintenance of equipment and oversees the purchase of new capital equipment.
  • Provides prevention and treatment education to professional and lay audiences.
  • Provides lectures and presentations in toxicology to healthcare professional students, residents and fellows.
  • Serves as preceptor of clinical rotations and clerkships for healthcare professional students, residents and fellows in the poison center
  • Consults with clinical staff on difficult poisoning cases.
  • Responsible for some direct answering of poisoning inquiries into the Center.
  • Establishes and refines quality improvement/quality assurance initiatives.
  • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
  • Performs related duties as needed or requested by higher management
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
