Director of Manufacturing Operations

The Director of Manufacturing Operations, reporting to the CEO, manages all manufacturing activities, policies, systems, and manufacturing controls in the company. The Director oversees manufacturing to ensure product quality and optimal resource utilization and on-time delivery. This position entails managing a large facility, with a manufacturing staff of 300, and has these departments reporting to them: All Product Manufacturing, Logistics, Procurement, Shipping and Receiving and Facility Management. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Performance Management

o

Provide leadership and technical direction to direct reports including continuous evaluation of staff performance

o

Inspire and motivate employees to meet company goals

o

Establish departmental and manager team goals within the framework of schedule, quality, technical, and financial objectives

o

Establish meaningful performance metrics and measure progress

  • Project Management

o

Drive improvements in quality, cost reduction, and time to market

o

Develop and apply consistent manufacturing practices and standards

o

Use process flow diagrams and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to analyze and manage workflow

o

Initiate, drive, and participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activity

o

Proficient in root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies

o

Oversight for safety and performance objectives through modernization for equipment, fixtures, and tools

o

Communicate with executive management and make presentations to high-level clients and government agencies on technical and organizational capabilities

o

Work closely with materials management, QA and suppliers to ensure that purchased material meets specifications

o

Oversee the facility management

o

Ensure factory layout and equipment locations are optimized for material flow and manufacturing efficiency

  • Financial Management

o

Work with Finance to establish cost standards, and budgeting for manufacturing capital and expense spending

o

Oversee departmental budgets and expenditures

o

Ensure that Purchasing and Finance Departments work closely for materials management

  • Coordination with Engineering Department

o

Provide recommendations to help guide product and systems development for manufacturability

o

Recommend design solutions and changes

o

Work with Engineering R&D to manufacture new products or improve current products and processes that meet quality and cost effectiveness standards

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Advanced degree in MFG is a plus (M.S. or PhD.)

Minimum of 5 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer and 5 years as a Manufacturing Manager/Director

Excellence in performing: Data Analysis, Risk Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Method Application, Process Validations, Capacity Planning, and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)

Experience within the aviation industry

Experience using manufacturing technologies, factory automation technology, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems

Excellent process development capabilities

Proficiency interpreting documentation such as drawings, schematics, engineering and inspection requirements, and BOMs

Experience creating and delivering presentations to high-level clients, government and regulatory agencies

Experience with a highly regulated environment and international standards: ISO 9001, ISO14001 and AS9100.

Business acumen & financial literacy: knowing how strategies and decisions impact financial, operational, and sales results

Decision-making in high-pressure situations

Excellent English speaking and writing skills. Spanish is a plus
