Position Summary

The Director of Education Outreach (DEO) is responsible to oversee the educational outreach in East Asia from Primary School through Universities as well as help coordinate ESL ministry with House Church Networks consistent with the goals and policies of East-West. They will ensure consistency and efficiency of operations. The DEO is responsible for all teaching, strategies, missionary teacher development and placement, statistics, long and short range planning, pastoral care, conflict resolutions, goal setting and other activities that contribute to the success of the outreach. They will work with headquarters identifying hiring and training needs to maintain and grow the program. Finally, the DEO is responsible for making those in the field feel connected and supported by East-West. This position will become acquainted with teachers early in the recruitment process and will maintain communication through phone calls, e-mails and campus visits. It is expected that this position will improve the retention rate of teachers over the long term.

This is a fully support-raised position.

Education and Experience

  • Ability to live overseas
  • Ability to raise personal support as well as develop and manage personal ministry budget
  • Ability to learn languages
  • Have lived overseas, in an East Asian context, highly preferred
  • Two years’ experience ministering to an East Asian culture, highly preferred
  • One year’s experience teaching English
  • Five years’ of management experience
  • Seven years’ of ministry experience in a church or mission capacity
    • Church experience can include Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School teacher, etc.
  • Capacity to deal with challenging and complex issues while understanding the cultural undertones of a situation. Mature with self-control
  • Uphold a close and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A baptized believer of Jesus Christ
  • High commitment to, and practices, regular prayer and time in the Word
  • Faithful member of a local church
  • Experienced in sharing his/her faith with a clear, concise gospel message
  • Experienced in effectively discipling new followers of Jesus, preferred
  • BA degree preferred
  • Trained biblically and theologically
  • Experienced in cross-cultural ministry, preferred
  • Demonstrates teaching, leadership, and shepherding skills
