The UNC System Office located in Chapel Hill, NC invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Economic Development, Engagement, and Partnerships.
The AVP for Economic Development, Engagement, and Partnerships is responsible for developing initiatives and programs which leverage the University’s academic and research missions to advance the economic development goals of the State and to initiate and sustain relevant strategic partnerships and collaborations. The position brings together economic development experts from the University’s 17 constituent institutions and affiliates to maximize the University’s potential impact on State-wide economic development and innovation efforts. Other responsibilities include coordinating the UNC System’s efforts to enhance the University’s support of entrepreneurship and working with the research offices of the constituent institutions to increase and improve innovation and technology transfer throughout the University System.
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The University of North Carolina System Office’s Department of Economic Development, Engagement, and Partnerships in the External Affairs Division is responsible for coordination of the University efforts to increase its engagement with external stakeholders. The work of the unit includes increasing the readiness of students, faculty, staff and state citizens through programs, provision of data and collaboration with external partners; strengthening programs to assist in community and economic development; and developing new strategies and mechanisms for the University to engage with the community, the state and the world.
SPA Minimum Qualifications Hiring Salary Range
Market rate, commensurate with experience.
EPA Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
Master’s degree preferred with a minimum of seven or more years of experience in providing leadership of programs and/or activities focused on economic development, innovation, and public-private sector partnerships for a large, complex public, non-profit, or private sector institution; Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of ten or more years of experience in providing leadership of programs and/or activities focused on economic development, innovation, and public-private sector partnerships for a large, complex public, non-profit, or private sector institution.
- Must demonstrate a broad understanding of State and Global economies and how public sector and higher education organizations can contribute to and advance local, regional, and State economic development goals.
- Strong analytical, public speaking, and project management skills are essential and must be demonstrated through a combination of prior education and experience.
