Job Title: Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesDepartment: Pupil PersonnelReports to: Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesSupervises: Shared supervision of PPS office staff, special education faculty , service providers and programsDescription of job: Summary of Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Pupil Personnel Services by providing administrative and technical staff assistance in the implementation of policies and procedures related to special education services. Serves as a liaison to school district personnel in coordinating services and programs related to special needs students. The Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Services shall assist the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in any other capacity that the Director deems necessary.Essential Functions: 1. Serves as a leader and general resource person in matters relating to student learning, behavioral adjustment and social-emotional difficulties, program parameters, support services relating to specialized instruction and focused interventions.2.

In concert with the Director, evaluate related service staff through EPSS or district evaluation process.3. Coordinates and facilitates the development of the cooperative efforts between schools, district-level programs and other community agencies in providing services to our students.4. Facilitates enrollment of students into out-of-district programs, as well as return to district from out-of-district programs.5. Supervise and attend the Evaluation Team meetings as requested by staff or parents.6.

Directs the special education and related services staff regarding procedures, technology, recordkeeping, IEPs and compliance to state and federal guidelines.7. Plans, conducts, and organizes a variety of staff development opportunities related to special education and 504, including but not limited to, learning and behavioral interventions. 8. As directed by the Director of Pupil-Personnel Services, guides, directs, advises, and participates in serious discipline issues, including student suspension and expulsion cases of students under the protections of IDEA and 504.9.

Provides data needed to complete state and federal reporting.10.In collaboration with the director, interprets, prepares, and disseminates information regarding IDEA policies, procedures, support services and programs. 11. Collaborates with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in matters regarding technical needs and information relating to special education, related services and student needs 12. Maintains current knowledge of new legislation and requirements, and of new approaches, programs and models of instruction and behavioral change.

13. Provides direction, coordination, and guidance to the districts school psychologists, school social workers, speech-language therapists, occupational therapists (including COTAs), physical therapists (including Physical Therapy Assistants), and School Nurses. 14. At the direction of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, prepares School Committee agenda items relating to the Assistant Directors areas of responsibilities, submitting items in a timely and appropriate manner to the Director for final review.15.

Attends School Committee meetings as needed. 16. Attends SELAC meetings and works with the leadership team.17. Attends district meetings as requested by the Director.18.

Responds to parent complaints effectively and professionally.19. Effectively communicates to building principals, central office, teachers and support staff.20. Establishes annual goals and objectives in collaboration with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services. 21.

In concert with the school-based Section 504 Coordinators, provide collaborative support for the development and implementation of Section 504 Accommodation Plans. 23.Provide assistance to the summer Extended School Year (ESY) Program in conjunction with the ESY Coordinator. 24. Perform other special education duties as directed by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
