The position is responsible for providing direction and oversight of all HR Investigations and employee relations matter globally as well as leading a team to conduct HR investigations in North America. This role will also provide technical assistance to HRBPs for investigations outside North America; and direction, counsel and advice to HR leaders and HRBPs for all employee relations matters. The individual in this position will also be responsible for leading Stryker’s response to challenging and/or sensitive employee relations matters and must be able to influence and lead senior business leaders and senior HR leaders in these matters.
To drive adherence to Stryker’s mission and culture, this leader will design strategies and build programs related to employee relations and HR Investigations that are proactive, sustainable and scalable. The leader must have a high level of influence across the organization and build partnerships through clear expectations, consistent processes and accountability to ensure alignment with HR, compliance, legal and the business.
- Works with key HR and business leaders to develop and define the employee relations and HR Investigation strategy and delivery model.
- Leads development and maintenance of (i) HR Policies and standards globally related to employee relations and HR Investigations; (ii) systems and tools to support employee relations and HR Investigations; and (iii) analysis and insights on trends and issues regarding work environment trends.
- Builds, develops and lead a highly trusted customer-facing center of expertise (COE) for employee relations and HR Investigations who coach and consult with business leaders, HR Leaders and HRBPs on employee relations matters to ensure that the business properly handles employee relations and work environment issues. In addition, this position will work directly with HR leaders and senior business leaders to lead and resolve challenging and/or sensitive employee relations matters.
- Leads team responsible for the entire HR investigation process, from developing intake processes, investigation planning and interviews, recommendation and determination, reporting/insights analysis, and oversees all human resources matters in the company’s Ethics Hotline globally.
- Develop and define performance management and discipline strategy, including processes and tolls for disciplinary issues.
- Leads and develops labor relations strategies in the United States. Coordinates with local HR on works council and other issues.
- Coordinates and aligns with Compliance and legal partners regarding individual issues and handling of compliance/work environment matters. Develops, maintains and fosters collaborative partnerships with business-based HR, COEs, compliance, legal and teams.
- Coaches, develops, and manages performance and engagement of team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university required. Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field is preferred.
- PHR/SPHR/GPHR preferred.
- Minimum of 12+ years professional experience required.
- 10+ years significant employee relations or HR investigations experience.
- 8+ years leadership of teams that handle or address employee relations or HR Investigations.
- Must have experience as manager of managers.
- Must have experience with employee relations and HR Investigations in the United States.
- Global leadership and/or US multinational experience required.
- Experience in HR matters outside the United States, especially with respect to investigations or employee relations, is strongly preferred.
- Experience in development of policies, training materials and employment communication preferred.
- Proven experience managing and leading large remote teams with a strong focus on developing trusted relationships with the business.
- Demonstrated excellence in customer relations and building strong and influential relationships at all levels within an organization; problem solving and proactive service orientation.
- Demonstrated ability to work on highly confidential matters and to maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality as to those matters.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to package information in clear, concise executive level format.
- Proven ability to drive programs, lead people through change and meet deliverables in a complex environment.
- Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in a rapidly changing regulatory and business environment.
- An empathetic approach to handling employee concerns and issues.
