OVERVIEW
The Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director for daily direction and supports the mission and vision of Nebraska Shakespeare by developing and managing a comprehensive marketing and communication plan that promotes the organization as well as specific programs while also building and strengthening the brand. The primary role of the Marketing Director is to build awareness, engage patrons and increase attendance at NS events. The Marketing Director manages all marketing functions within the approved budget. The incumbent has a degree in Marketing/Communications and previous experience as a Marketing Director with a proven record of effective return on marketing investment. The Marketing Director possesses creative as well as analytical expertise to effectively target the right audience with the right message at the right time. The incumbent models the brand and enthusiastically promotes the organizationâs mission with consistency.
GENERAL SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Marketing Director is responsible for:
- Media Relations and Press Releases
- Digital Communications and Newsletters
- Key Messages and Talking Points
- Website and Social Media Continuity and Integration
- Program/Event Promotion and Collateral (including fundraisers)
- Branding and Image
- Audience Development and Accessibility
- Mailing Coordination (lists, printing, mail house)
- In-kind solicitations
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Relations and Press Releases
With a modest marketing budget, the Marketing Director must leverage relationships with local media contacts to ensure earned media coverage and increase visibility of NS. Utilizing University and Board partnerships for distribution channels, the Marketing Director develops and distributes timely press releases that gain the interest of the press and newscasters. Effective communication skills coupled with creativity are essential to break through the clutter. The Marketing Director maintains contact with key media representatives to gain access and schedule on air opportunities and schedules/oversees all photo shoots. Working with the Executive Director and Board Marketing Committee, key messages and talking points are constructed to ensure consistency, build the brand, support the mission/strategic priorities and engage/retain patrons and attendees.
Integrated Messaging Across Channels
The Marketing Director ensures that all channels and touch points are current and in sync: print materials, newsletters-eBlasts, website, blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and enlists others to contribute as needed.
Print and Digital Collateral
The Marketing Director creates (or oversees creation) of all print and digital collateral pieces for NS. This includes (but not limited to) posters, banners, programs, invitations, stationery, business cards, program recaps, fliers and mailers.
Program Support
The Marketing Director works with staff to ensure support, promotion and communication of Nebraska Shakespeare programs and events. Support may include press releases, eBlasts, print materials, invitations, photo calls, video archival, social media coordination, media guest announcers or specific volunteer talent.
