POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Greater Whittier is seeking an experienced HR professional for the Association. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Human Resources and Risk Management Director at YMCA of Greater Whittier will oversee human resources and risk management practices and processes for approximately 200 staff/volunteers. The goal of the position is to promote organizational values and enable business success through job design, recruitment, training and development and organizational risk management. This position reports to the Executive Director of Administrative Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: BA/BS degree, preferably in Human Resources, Business, or related field. SHRM or PHR certification required. Ability to obtain a Live Scan operator certificate from the Office of the California Attorney General.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ proven human resources experience. A minimum of 2 years of risk management OSHA experience preferred
- Physical: May be required to sit for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on computer and other equipment. Receives and follows general instructions. Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment as well as organizing and planning efficiently.
- Mental: Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and handle the high degree of confidential information with discretion.
- Skills: Must possess the skills to operate standard office and computer equipment. Must possess strong knowledge and experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and applicable personal computer applications. Advanced knowledge of Workforce/HRIS products, Volunteer Matters preferred. Must possess effective communication, organizational and human relations skills. Ability to communicate with Executives, other staff and volunteers with a high degree of tact and persuasiveness is required. Must have effective research skills and writing abilities and be highly motivated. Initiative and discriminating judgment required. Keen ability to assess legal and compliance risk relative to application of policies and procedures, affecting all applicable functions. Works with minimal supervision. Effective office and administrative skills required.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
- Administers volunteer records and compliance, including live scan fingerprint imaging.
- Remains current on employment laws and risk management regulations and serves as point of contact and manages relationships with compliance agencies.
- Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by EEOC, OSHA, YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, IRS, etc.
- Works with our management team to develop plans for: talent management, including training, staff training and leadership development, retention, recognition, employee communication and career development. Assesses and evaluates training and staff development needs and develops programs to meet needs.
- Works with all program directors to ensure the timely annual completion of performance appraisals. Provides assistance to directors on questions related to personnel policies and procedures.
