Overview:
The Director of Operations will lead the company’s operations which includes: inbound and outbound transportation, warehouse/distribution centers, safety process/training and customer service. The Company’s operations unit employs over 250 people and is the largest business discipline in the organization. Strong people skills are essential.
The Company’s ideal candidate will be a ‘hands on’ leader accustomed to driving results; and, leading and prioritizing multiple tasks without direct supervision. He or she must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate across organizational lines. Extensive travel and temporary site placement are required.
Summary of Duties:
In an effort to continuously improve the Company’s distribution centers, the Director of Operations will lead the Company’s operations and have the following primary duties:
- Warehouse Financial Performance –
Plan and drive best-in-class results in warehouse financial performance metrics.
Participate in the development and execution of an annual operating budget.
- Warehouse Quality Performance –
Manage and improve metrics for put away accuracy, inventory accuracy, picking accuracy and shipping accuracy.
Identify opportunities that eliminate waste and improve the customer experience.
- Warehouse Productivity Performance –
Continuously improve and utilize key assets including labor, space and storage density, material handling systems and warehouse management systems.
Implement systems and controls to access performance across multiple warehouses.
Analyze and improve dock-to-stock time and warehouse order cycle time.
Leverage operations to be a competitive advantage for the Company in a rapidly changing and dynamic economy.
Identify areas of opportunity, develop a plan of action and implement effectively.
- Logistics / Transportation –
Lead the Company’s logistics team and drive improvements in cost, service and flexibility.
Harmonize and optimize all operational functionality with best practice processes and technology.
Contribute and support the integration of operations of acquired wholesale distributors into NOD.
- Leadership –
Recruit, appoint and develop a high-performance operations management team.
Create a culture and policies that attract, develop and retain the best operations talent in the industry.
Work seamlessly and openly with the CEO and other members of Management Team.
Maintain and improve a safe and healthy environment.
Participate in operational planning with the Executive Team and work cross-functionally to improve processes within the organization.
Participate in technology development and understand the value of new applications to improve proficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10 years operations experience with one or more national distribution-based business outside the PBE industry.
- Experience in industrial distribution, with company in the $500MM-$1B revenue range preferred.
- Experience in a three-tier distribution model is a plus, but experience that includes thousands of local, regional and national customers, hundreds of product categories and, thousands of SKU’s is required.
- Minimum five years’ experience leading operations: day to day warehousing, distribution, and inbound & outbound transportation management.
- Demonstrated success in leading an effort to consolidate and/or move warehouses.
- Strategic planning experience to initiate and redesign warehouse operations using best practice processes, warehouse layouts and warehouse management system technology.
- Created and achieved at least five cycles of an operations budget and operating plan.
- Managed a system that supported e-commerce and call center for small order customers.
- Supported the acquisition of at least one company and successfully integrated the company into the parent’s operations.
- Must understand the value of the team, core values and culture. People first mentality.
- Basic or advanced knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), plus possess the ability to learn systems quickly.
