An ideal candidate will have a passion for STEM Education and be knowledgeable about the principles of quality STEM Education in general as well as the specific needs of at-risk youth. In addition to sufficient subject area knowledge, a good Director of STEM Education must also possess excellent project management, time management, and communication skills. They must also have the ability to build and maintain relationships with partners and external stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Associate’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or no degree and a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Must pass background check, reference check, and drug test
  • Must be able to work and interact professionally

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Education, Arts, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of direct experience
  • 21+ years, hold a valid Texas Driver’s License, personal insurance, and insurable through our organizational driver policy (may be required for some Club assignments)
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Preferred ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Preferred ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc
  • Preferred ability to meet physical demands of working with youth
  • Preferred ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Preferred ability to endure periodically noisy environments (in the context of working with youth)
  • Preferred ability to have adequate vision and hearing to ensure the safety of Club youth

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Creates, implements, promotes, and manages STEM programs and activities that facilitate youth innovation, technology fluency, and help them understand how and why things work together
  • Trains staff on various STEM curriculum
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work
  • Maintains staff by recruiting and training employees
  • Maintains a safe, legal, and clean work environment
  • Develops personal and staff growth opportunities
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards
  • Collaborates with Club staff and members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional contact with external community groups, school administration, members’ parents and others.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates on the creation of STEM department schedules
  • Ensures quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests
  • Fulfills grant requirements
  • Participates in the creation, implementation, maintenance, and management of the budget
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as prescribed
  • Responds to inquiries as the main point of contact with Directors and others pertaining to STEM
  • Maintains inventory of all STEM equipment
  • Collaborates the planning and operation of STEM events
  • May be required to drive a shuttle bus or Club transportation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
