Director of Engineering

A bit about this role:
As the Director of Engineering for client experience teams, you’ll lead the engineering teams that develop and own the iOS & Android mobile apps, and client portal which are used by several thousands of clients. In this role, you’ll provide strategic thinking while also diving deeply across all areas of your organization. You’ll refine and execute the vision for mobile & web strategy and define long-term plans that span multiple years. Free thinking and collaboration is highly encouraged. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with the support of the rest of the organization. You’ll build your skills as a technical leader and enjoy the rewarding experience of seeing your efforts go directly into the final product!

The work you will tackle:

• You constantly look around corners to identify areas of investment that will enable your organization to move faster and invent on behalf of our clients.
• You’re an expert at managing without line-of-sight, employing techniques such as achieving results through others by delegating, establishing mechanisms to get the right information at the right time and defining and reviewing the necessary metrics and anecdotes that indicate if the client experience, business performance and operation effectiveness of your systems are improving or decreasing over time.
• You dive deeply across all areas of your organization to identify blind spots and then drive improvements that address root causes.
• Your client obsession and the standards you set for your organization raise the bar and provide a sustainable framework that consistently improves the Brightside mobile and web app client experience in ways our clients care about.
• You understand that your legacy and greatest impact to Brightside is to empower and grow other technical leaders. You achieve this by developing others, creating guardrails to enable independent decision making, giving ownership through delegation, providing stretch opportunities and encouraging your teams to move fast with a sense of urgency without burning out your engineers and leadership team.

What you bring that makes you a success:

• Experience leading teams that developed iOS and/or Android mobile apps
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and not technical stakeholders
• Proven track record of building and managing high performing engineering teams
• Proven ability to recruit, motivate and grow world class engineering teams
• Work with the broader engineering leadership team in order to set technology direction for the engineering organization
• Giving & receiving meaningful feedback is part of our growth mind set & culture – both are in your wheelhouse

What we’re looking for in your background:

• Proficiency in architecting & implementing mobile applications & web applications is required
• B.S Degree in Computer Science OR B.S Degree in Software Development OR extensive relevant work experience
• 5+ years of experience in a software engineering leadership role managing other engineering leaders and individual contributors
• Experience defining and executing on client facing products and technical vision
