UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. IT Infrastructure within UW-IT, provides system design, system management, software engineering and operational support for academic and administrative systems, the University’s wired and wireless networks, telecommunications services, departmental IT and the UW-IT organization. This division additionally supports the state K-20 Education Network and national and international networks, including the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, Internet2 and others.
UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Research Networks.
Working closely with UW-IT and Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) leaderships, the Director of Research Networks develops and oversees network services and technology strategies for regional, national, and international R&E networking initiatives. Under the auspices of the PNWGP, the Director coordinates service definition, technical architecture, systems engineering, service delivery, and partnership policy activities related to PNWGP network services supporting UW, K-20, government, higher education, research-based not-for-profits, federal agencies and international research network entities. The Director establishes and enhances diverse and mutually beneficial R&E networking partnerships and alliances. They collect requirements associated with the University of Washington’s R&E networking needs and coordinates PNWGP’s services in support of these needs. The Director will be a visible and respected leader within the international and national R&E networking community and actively engaged in various R&E networking governance committees. The Director will oversee the UW-related administrative, business and technical functions associated with delivery and support of the PNWGP network.

This Director reports to PNWGP Executive Director and the UW-IT Executive Director of Regional Networks and works regularly with the leadership of the UW-IT IT Infrastructure team.
Requires frequent regional, national, and international travel as well as conference calls to represent UW and PNWGP.

This is an essential position and is required to report to work remotely when the UW suspends operations.
