As a Vice President within the Strategy and Corporate Development team, you will be a key member of a small, experienced team that oversees the M&A, partnership and long-term growth strategy for MSCI Inc. We are tasked with ensuring the company invests, both organically and inorganically, in the assets and capabilities needed to stay ahead of the competition and maintain a leadership position. The influential team reports to the firm’s Chief Strategy Officer and works with the CEO, Executive Committee and senior business leaders to define, articulate and execute strategic priorities for the firm.

The role will have broad exposure to strategy, M&A, partnerships and new business initiatives. Core responsibilities include helping to create and drive the strategic planning process to facilitate the development and evolution of the firm strategy, tracking execution against the strategy and conducting competitive intelligence. You will also be responsible for building out capabilities such as client, market, and competitor intelligence, strategic gap analyses, sizing of new opportunities and prioritization. Additionally, you will help drive acquisition and partnership execution across all product lines.

Given the small size of the team, we value organization, self-motivation, strong attention to detail and extensive modeling and presentation experience. The position offers significant responsibility and broad exposure to many aspects of the business. You should have experience framing and analyzing complex problems, developing recommendations, partnering with business leaders to drive execution, facilitating governance and communication processes, and playing a key role in informing and influencing decision making.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the planning and execution of enterprise-wide strategic planning process, both for the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors

  • Serve as the internal consulting function to the CEO and Executive Committee
  • Maintain an external mindset, including staying on top of industry, competitive and macroeconomic trends, including the role of new technologies
  • Continually evaluate new market trends and competitive opportunities/threats
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop market assessments, including identifying growth opportunities and diagnosing client needs and behaviors
  • Help develop analyses to assess market sizing, segmentation, addressable market and penetration
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to identify, prioritize and cultivate partnership and acquisition opportunities; present market scan of opportunities, including how respective opportunities would accelerate MSCI’s strategic priorities
  • Work with product and functional teams, as well as external advisors to execute partnerships and acquisitions
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models which support management decisions

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years’ experience in strategy, investment banking or corporate development (top-tier consulting or investment banking firm experience strongly preferred with exposure to financial services and/or financial technology)
  • Knowledge of new technologies and their impact on financial markets and participants. Understanding of financial products, client workflow and investment tools is a plus
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to think broadly, refine questions and develop analytical frameworks; outstanding quantitative, financial and analytical skills
  • Ability to work both independently and partner with cross-functional teams
  • Highly motivated, personable and capable of managing multiple tasks in a demanding and dynamic work environment
  • Ability to accurately assess longer-term implications of changing business models with simultaneous focus on optimizing the short-term, understanding the growth drivers of the business and prioritizes initiatives that will accelerate growth
  • Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal – with comfort interfacing with senior business leaders
