Summary/Objective

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Director of Environmental Services plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and housekeeping services to all Guests in the facility. The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for the planning, development and overall operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments which ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, odor free and safe manner.


Essential Functions

1. Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the housekeeping and laundry staff.

2. Responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing of Guests rooms and all areas inside the facility as well as outside and the entire property.

3. Ensures the facility is kept cleaned, sanitary, and odor free at all times in compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations.

4. Responsible for operating the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments within budgetary guidelines and limitations.

5. Completes annual performance reviews of all subordinate staff. Provides guidance and education to staff in regards to their performance.

6. Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.

7. Responsible for training and educating staff members.

8. Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies.

9. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the appropriate persons.

10. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests/guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.

11. Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas.

12. Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Guests to different rooms within the facility.

13. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.

14. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.


Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises employees in the department and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible by following policies and applicable laws. Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.

Supervisory responsibilities include:

  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees.
  • Schedules, plans, assigns and directs work.
  • Receives calls and finds replacements for absent staff.
  • Prepares performance evaluations
  • Approves errors in time cards or other timekeeping records.
  • Receives and resolves employee complaints.
  • Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
  • Disciplines employees up to and including discharge.
