Information Technology Services (ITS) provides fundamental information technology infrastructure and services to UNC-Chapel Hill. ITS’s scope includes: institutional financial, human resources, payroll, travel, facilities, datawarehouse, email/calendaring, learning management system, classroom technologies, networking, phone service, helpdesk, service request and incident reporting, institutional information security, scientific computing and engagement, storage, database, identity and access management, etc. ITS comprises approximately 400 FTE with nine major operating divisions: Enterprise Applications, Infrastructure & Operations, User Support and Engagement (including Communications), Research Computing, Teaching & Learning, Information Security, Finance and Administration, Communication Technologies, and Office of the CIO. The Office of the CIO provides institutional operational and strategic leadership both for the ITS division and the institution as a whole. As such, there are myriad projects and initiatives that are scoped across the entire ITS division and/or in service of the institution as a whole. This position’s purpose is to establish an ITS-wide, and institutionally-oriented, pre-project, in-project, and post-project capability. The expectation is that, for projects and initiatives that are divisionally or institutionally scoped, or for undertakings that do not cohere within a particular ITS operating subunit-this capability will comprise project management, change management, and customer engagement in varying contexts. This will be the first such capability in ITS that is to be more than a coordination capability; it is also to perform functions associated with project intake, planning, execution, and post-execution transition to sustained operations for select projects and initiatives. They are expected to be a strong innovator, work independently and capable of leading and organizing multiple projects that cross departmental and operational boundaries. This position will work with senior IT management, senior University management, IT and business function representatives of units across the institution, and any number of the approximately 400 employees of the central IT Services organization and the thousands of UNC employees, faculty and students, we support.

Minimum Qualifications:

The following experience is required: – Minimum of five (5) years experience in IT project management or IT change management – Proven track record of: o Working independently and performing job with minimal supervision, escalating issues when appropriate o Highly developed communication skills across all media (oral/written/presentation) o Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to understand and be understood by both client and technical teams o Demonstrating strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make decisions The following experience is preferred: – Minimum of five (5) years experience at a major public research universityMasters’ and 2-4 years’ experience or Bachelors and 3-5 years’ experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
