IPC will focus on research, teaching, public policy and outreach initiatives that affect private capital markets. However, the primary mission of the Institute includes advancing this research with the intent of creating and supporting the most comprehensive database on private capital in the world, leading to more dependable information and accurate benchmarking across the industry. IPC is housed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is an affiliated center of the Kenan Institute. A distinguishing feature of IPC is its view of private capital as a series of asset classes and investment vehicles. In addition to its primary research initiatives, the IPC promotes curriculum development and educational initiatives for private investments. The Director of IPC will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations and strategic development. The Director will serve as the primary relationship point-of-contact for IPC (prospective) members helping to develop and maintain relationships with firms and professionals in the private equity fund, hedge fund, and other private investment fund industry with the specific purpose of involving them in IPC’s research initiatives and providing financial support. This position oversees academic support by planning and executing events to reach and educate students and practitioners on private capital markets. He/She is responsible for building efforts to secure funding to achieve a growth model for IPC and supervision of the finance operations within the institute. The Director of IPC, reports to the Executive Director of the Institute for Private Capital.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have experience in financial operations and fundraising in the public or private sector including creating and managing a budget and overseeing operations of a small to mid-sized organization. Preferred candidates should be knowledgeable about financial markets, preferably private capital markets. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated ability to engage and interact with private sector businesses. Existing relationships with investment managers and / or asset allocators is a plus. The ability to work effectively in an academic environment in which collaborative decision-making occurs is expected, as well as comfort working professionally with external stakeholders. Demonstrated experience with project management, including responsiveness to requests and follow-up, and the ability to anticipate needs and make process changes to improve outcomes, is required. Candidates should have prior fundraising experience and a firm working knowledge of the financial services industry (preferably private capital markets). Experience in an office setting handling projects that require a high degree of accuracy; demonstrated ability to implement new programs/processes; demonstrated high attention to detail; a demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task and handle different projects, in different stages, concurrently; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively; excellent grammar and writing skills; and the ability to be tactful, concise and clear in written and verbal communications are important. Candidates must possess strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Salesforce is a plus. Position generally requires in-office presence during work hours; ability to sit at a desk and use a computer throughout most of the day; ability to operate office equipment; and the ability to communicate using telephone and email. This position is expected to travel independently and with IPC staff and KFBS faculty to meet with development prospects (3-5 days /month)A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required with at least 3 years of relevant experience. MBA preferred.
