MISSION
EBSCO Information Services has an immediate opening for an Agile Development Director. This director is a servant leader who guides, coaches, and mentors managers and teams, helping them to deliver software solutions from the Enterprise Platform Agile Release Train that delight our customers. This role is primarily focused on the leadership and development of people and practices that enable self-directed teams to successfully deliver the business vision.
This role has the responsibility to work with technology leadership to ensure our principles and culture are reinforced and supported. You will work closely with product management leadership to establish clear business context for Agile Development Managers and Teams and work in partnership with the Enterprise Platform Program Team to support and enhance team empowerment, continuous improvement and innovation. This role reports to the VP of Development.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the Organization
  • Build trust throughout the organization
  • Stay focused on customer and market needs for the Enterprise PlatformAgile Release Train
  • Communicate EIS Technology vision and goals to managers and teams
  • Actively support EIS Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology
  • Be a champion of Self Directed Work Teams by educating on and modeling behaviors
  • Understand and apply boundary management principles appropriate to SDWT maturity model
    • Know when to operate inside the boundary and when to step out
  • Recognize and acknowledge success
  • Encourage managers to share feedback on the team, organization, and company via employee opinion surveys and other formal and informal channels.
    • Share and respond to feedback as appropriate
  • Champion diversity in the workforce
  • Identify goals and improvements; use metrics as a basis for conversations and coaching
  • Support organizational capacity through staffing, budget/compensation planning, skills development, and acquisition of required tools and technologies:
    • Conduct regular succession planning activities for key roles within the organization
    • Manage and approve staff performance and improvement plans
    • Help to attract, recruit, retain, and develop top engineering and management talent
    • Manage vendor engagements to the greatest effect to deliver the work
  • Support continuous improvement of software engineering capability and software craftsmanship.
    • Stay abreast of and share industry/technology trends relevant to the Software Engineering discipline
    • Lead and promote training development goals for the organization
  • Collaborate effectively and routinely share information and best practices across all functions to ensure organizational effectiveness
  • Ensure staff understand and adhere to corporate policies and procedures.
  • Handle escalations that cannot be resolved independently by teams or managers, and may similarly escalate to more senior management as appropriate
  • Assign individuals to teams; address issues that teams cannot unblock; make personnel changes where necessary in collaboration with the Agile team and Program Team
  • Support the budget process, supporting the ART and ensuring the teams are well supported and trained to perform at a high level
  • Represent EIS in industry groups and events to create internal and external awareness of functional solutions.
  • Meet regularly with managers one-on-one and provide coaching and engagement

Qualifications
  • Minimum requirements
    • BS in Computer Science or related engineering degree or equivalent work experience
    • 5 + years of experience with software product development team leadership
    • 5 + years of experience in scaling, availability and design of mission critical systems
    • 5 + years of software engineering experience
    • 2 + years of delivering solutions on Public Cloud providers
    • 2 + years of Lean/Agile experience
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master of Science Computer Sciences
    • Experience developing and deploying enterprise systems in Amazon Web Services
    • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework
    • Experience building micro service solutions
    • Experience with Serverless offerings from Cloud Native providers
