Overview and Job Summary:
Waukesha Civic Theatre seeks a focused, energized, highly communicative, and self-motivated individual interested in the performing arts and eager to find new ways to connect to the audience and community. WCT’s Director of Marketing and Development is responsible for raising awareness and support of Waukesha Civic Theatre by promoting ticket sales, education program enrollment, and event participation while engaging patrons, deepening the experience of all in attendance of WCT events, and taking full advantage of staff, volunteers, and the community.
The Director of Marketing and Development works with members of the staff, guest artists, Board
Directors, and community partners to nurture the artistic vibrancy and financial stability of WCT.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Marketing and Development is responsible for publicity, public relations, and advertising, as well as building connections with corporate sponsors. Expectations include:
Regular and open communication with Managing Artistic Director and Marketing Committee regarding every aspect of marketing and development.
Smooth and efficient implementation of marketing campaigns and strategies.
The management of resources to meet sales goals and promotional objectives.
Regularly representing the theatre to the local artistic community in coordination with the
Managing Artistic Director.
Maintaining a high-level social media presence and considering unique avenues of promotion of the historic PIX and the future of the Waukesha Civic Theatre.
Operating within all legal parameters and within high ethical standards.
DUTIES: The Director of Marketing and Development will develop and implement a strong marketing and development plan with the Managing Artistic Director and the Marketing Committee within the
Board of Directors.
Create, foster, and manage all areas of media exposure: print, online, social, and web.
Utilize social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others to activate the online community and develop new audiences.
Maintain, develop, and promote community partnerships.
Develop and promote donations, sponsorships, underwriting, and advertising opportunities.
Coordinate press releases and follow-up to create frequent and consistent publicity.
Maintain archive of press, preview, reviews, feature stories, photographs, show images on social media and website.
Update and maintain the theatre website, keeping all information current and relevant.
Prepare, distribute, and maintain media packets for all theatre events.
Attend rehearsals and performances as needed to meet artists and staff to best understand the artistic choices and how to represent them meaningfully in press and publicity.
Be in respectful contact with the staff and artists involved in the theatre to discover their artistic process and how their voices can be represented throughout marketing and community engagement.
Develop and supervise promotional events including but not limited to PIX Flix movie events, pre-show activities, job fairs and high-interest days, Waukesha Farmers Market, Friday Night
Live, and Waukesha parades.
Prepare special reports and projects as assigned, and assist with general office duties when available and as necessary.
Attend weekly staff meetings, all-staff meetings, and monthly Marketing Committee meetings. Attend board meetings as needed and/or requested by Managing Artistic Director.
Uphold the professional image and name of the Theatre in good faith during all dealings with staff, volunteers, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE: High School diploma necessary, marketing degree desired. Strong abilities in public relations, fundraising, and social media marketing necessary, background in website operation and graphic design desired.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY: Excellent customer service and communication skills required.
Advanced computer aptitude necessary, with Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook, and Google G
Suite experience preferred. Must have the ability to positively manage and supervise people, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Computer, mobile apps, printers / copiers, telephone, calculator, and other general office equipment.
