The Permanente Federation LLC (the Federation) is the national leadership and consulting organization for the eight Permanente Medical Groups (PMGs), which, together with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plans (KFHP) and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH), comprise Kaiser Permanente. The PMGs employ almost 23,000 physicians, approximately 90,000 nurses, other clinicians and staff, and provide care to over 12.2 million Kaiser Permanente members. The Federation works on behalf of the PMGs to optimize care delivery and advance Permanente Medicine – medicine that is patient centered, evidence based, technology enabled, culturally responsive, team delivered, and physician led. The Federation, based in Oakland, California, is dedicated to serving and leading Permanente Medicine, the Permanente Medical Groups, and Kaiser Permanente in support of our patients and members.
The Vice President is the operational partner for the Senior Medical Director of Quality and Co-Executive Director of the Care Management Institute (CMI). The Vice President will manage all administrative operations for the Senior Medical Director of Quality and Co-Executive Director of CMI (Senior Medical Director); provides leadership for The Permanente Federation Quality Team; and ensures that the operations are aligned with PMG quality strategies, initiatives and goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
- As a member of the TPF leadership team, ensures the execution of PMG’s strategy in the areas of: quality, patient safety, care experience, clinical education, service, people, efficiency, reputation and growth.
- Provides leadership, advice and counsel to TPF, PMG and KFHP leaders.
- Establishes clear expectations and supports achievement of performance excellence.
- In partnership with the Senior Medical Director, accountable for selecting, hiring, developing and leading TPF directors, managers and support staff.
- Promotes a culture of excellent service, quality and efficiency by valuing people, encouraging professional development and partnering with other leaders.
- Accountable for integrating efforts with other PMG and National initiatives to ensure alignment with and maximize efficiency toward national quality goals.
- Shares accountability for developing and implementing national approaches and solutions to improve the performance of key areas of operations.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum ten (10) years of leadership and / or management experiences, in a complex health care setting
- Minimum three (3) three years of experience in working with a large physician group practice managing/leading through influence and collaboration.

Additional Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of the multi-specialty group practice model. Knowledge of Health Plan, clinic and hospital operations required
- Proven success in executive-level leadership, including experience in implementing large scale change
- Ability to work independently to further the vision of The Permanente Federation, the Permanente Medical Groups and Kaiser Permanente as a whole
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team
- Exceptional analytic, conceptual, and business planning skills
- A proven track record of results in working with process management
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians and other professional leaders through influence and collaboration
