Job Purpose
We are looking for a new team member as a lead project manager to lead our major gas construction project.
You will be responsible for the planning, delivery, management, and governance of assigned projects in accordance with the National Grid project management processes defined by: safety, scope, schedule and quality. You will lead a project team with focus on capital gas construction projects.
Key Accountabilities
In this role as a Lead Project Manager Gas Project Delivery you will ensure the successful completion of large-scale capital construction projects, which will allow for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to our existing and future customers. These projects include: transmission pipelines, distribution main, public works, peak-shaving facilities, regulator/take stations, bridge/railroad/water crossings, and other special capital projects.
You will be our partner to manage all aspects of assigned projects by:
Communicating with the team and our partners, leading the team of project managers.
Developing and gaining approval of scope, cost estimate, schedule and resource plan;
Controlling of project scope, cost, quality and schedule parameters / risk management;
Assuring compliance with environmental, safety and National Grid standards and policies;
Acquiring required permits, licenses and land rights;
Engineering and designing deliverables;
Contracting services, equipment and material procurement and administration;
Constructing interface with operations and commissioning;
Closing activities with project acceptance; and
Providing project status reports to Senior Leadership, team members and all project stakeholders.
You will be responsible to promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization throughout the department, the project team(s) and project support groups including: Engineering & Design departments, Operations, Asset Management groups, Supply Chain Management, Business and Commercial Services, Real Estate, Environmental and Administrative Service groups.
In this position, you will be the focal point of project management consulting and expertise for peers within the Engineering & Design groups. You will seek and promote ‘best practices’ approach to project management within the team and work group.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative, integrity and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience in all aspects of utility construction (preferably gas) operations is required. MBA preferred.
5+ years experience with project management or equivalent relevant experience.
Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
Experience with successful delivery of complex projects and team leadership skills.
Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
Knowledge of gas system operations, gas industry codes and regulations, construction, environmental, engineering economics is desired.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
Demonstrate openness to change.
Bottom-line oriented, budget-conscious, metric/measurement driven.
Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. both external and internal).
Strong skills in negotiations, presentation, construction management, interpersonal & written communication, and critical analysis.
Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history required.
Experience working with FERC, PUC, MA DPU and other regulatory agencies a strong plus
